Hello,

I am doing genealogy research for a couple in my family and would like to know if
anyone can help me to find their parents or any additional information about them.

Naum Dobrovlianski
Birth 1907
Death 1941 Volkhovstroy, Russia
A journalist for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation
Naum was exempted >from military service due to flat feet, however, when the Germans
invaded Russia in 1941 he volunteered. At one point his unit was surrounded by
Germans and the only food they had were berries. He developed dysentery and later
passed away.

Birth Leningrad, Russia
Death Leningrad, Russia
Komsomol - All-Union Leninist Young Communist League

Due to the passing of her spouse and invading German's, Volkhovstroy was no longer
safe. Sophia, Sergo (son) and William (son) fled to the Ural Mountains.

I any information about their parents would be appreciated.

I have seen a considerable amount of conflicting information that Chana
Yona, the wife of Rabbi Zvi HELMAN-LOEW, the uncle of the Maharal of Prague,
was also married at different times to Rabbi Moshe Gershon ALTSCHULER of
Krakow (who, at least according to the information I have in front of me,
was about 20 years her junior), and also to Rabbi Shalom SHACHNA of Lublin.
Does anyone have any authoritative information that will help clear up the
jumble? And thanks in advance.

Elaine I think you are confusing Lithuania and Livonia when you say Riga
was in Lithuania at one time. Riga was never in Lithuania. Vidzeme extended
from Riga to Estonia and was Livonia or Lifland. Courland was Kurzeme and
Zemgale. If your father said they were Prussian Jews it is possible they
were >from Courland which was Germanic.
I do not know who you emailed in Riga but if you want research done then you
should contact the Latvian Historical Archives

You should also post a message on the Courland Discussion Group.
They may have originated in Lithuania and gone to live in Latvia so a
message on LitvakSIG Discussion Group may also help.
I assume you have done research on the Jewishgen Latvia Database and you
should also try the LitvakSIG Database. If you find names that seem to be
your family you should confirm with the appropriate Archive as it is easy to
make mistakes.

that time Moldova Principality... and many Jews who came to Bessarabia in 18-19 century, were
from Poland...
If you are coming to conference, please come to our Bessarabia sessions, meet our guest speaker
Serghei Daniliuk, who will make two presentations - one on Jewish Shteitle without Jews in
Moldova and second on Jewish Cemeteries in Bessarabia/Moldova. Serghei also is offering
translation assistance >from Romanian.
If you are interested in hearing about Moldova Archives, this is going to be on my lecture. It will
include many sources of information, like NARM - National Archive of Republic of Moldova,
Miriam Weiner's Archival Material donated to Bessarabia SIG, FHL, other.
I believe that this research will bring more records into our collection, and it will allow to broader
our personal research.

Bessarabian Databases.

Updates:Bessarabia Revision Lists. A new set of records was started and some sets are in progress.
These records are going to be submitted to JewishGen in December of 2018. Records include
sets for Soroki, Ataki, Rashkov, Valey-lui-Vlad, Izmail, Beltsy, etc.

According to the book Die Judenschaft von Camberg, written by Dr Peter Karl
Schmidt, a Löw/Löb/Landau family came to Camberg >from Kasnatz in Russian Poland.
But I can not find Kasnatz anywhere. Can I get help with the name/location of this
Shtetl?

descendents. Joseph was born in Lithuania, most probably in Kedainiai
[Keidan], son of Ya'acov Levin. His father's family was originally >from
Baisogala. He immigrated to Paris, France, were he was a meteorologist,
maybe a professor of meteorology. In 1921 he published a book about
the weather in Paris "Atlas meteorologique de Paris", published by
Gauthier-Villars in 1921 in Paris. His title as written in
the book was ""aide meteorologiste de premiere classe a la section des
recherche scientifiques de l'office national meteorologique". I have
been unable to locate any other information about him, including in the
French deportation list recently published.
