Jewish Cemetery for Lodz prior to 1892 #general

Naidia Woolf <rnwoolf@...>

Does anyone know where Jews >from Lodz were buried prior to 1892? I've been
informed that the cemetery in Lodz was not established until that date.

I'm trying to locate the grave of my great grandfather, Isaac KYJAWSKI who
may or may not have been interred prior to 1892.

All researchers with an interest in their family's roots in Poland are
urged to search the Jewish Records Indexing - Poland database of
indices to the Jewish vital records of Poland. There are now indices
to more than 900,000 records on-line including almost 17,500 for
Czestochowa (1826 to 1883) and 5000 for Bedzin (1826 to 1859.)

To stay up to date on current and planned initiatives to index
Jewish records of Polish towns, readers are invited to subscribe
to the JRI-Poland mailing list. You can do that by going to the
following web address: http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/join.htm

The good news for all researchers of the Czestochowa area is
that a project will be launched shortly to index the records - not
filmed by the Mormons - for all the towns in the Czestochowa
branch of the Polish State Archives. The towns are:

Czestochowa
Janow
Klobuck
Krzepice
Lelow
Mstow
Plawno
Praszka
Przyrow
Szczekociny
Zarki

Well, it is a bit contrived explanation, Zsa Zsa Gabor's name was more a
kind of "kinui" in Budapest / Holywood slang than an actual name.

The Berea shul that recently closed had two wings, one on either side of the
Aron Kodesh which were copper coloured. There were just the wings of an
angel, not an angel as such.

Hi Steven

I have forwarded your request to a friend in Pietermaritzburg for him to
check whatever records are available. He is still away on holiday but gets
back to his office next Monday 15th January, so hopefully he will reply

I am a genealogy researcher in the United States trying to locate
information
on a Samuel Henry Froomberg who was married to a ROSIE JACOBS. Samuel was
born
1821 in Warsaw, Poland and died Dec. 7, 1901 in
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He and Rosie Jacobs were married in
London.

They had the following children:

William Froomberg m. Annie McSorley in 1856/57 in San Fransisco, USA
Sarah Froomberg m. Ruben Isaacs
Barnett Froomberg m. Phoebe (nee ?)
Kate Froomberg m. (?) Tyler

Any information on these individuals or their decendents would be most
appreciated, or some direction as to where to look.

It is hard for me to believe that only four of you are willing to do the
grunt work on locating and copying Kurlander burial sites in the world.
That is not enough to get the project off the ground. Are the rest of you
waiting for someone else to do the work and post it so that you can reap
the benefits? Everyone wants to find his family's information up on the
internet, but how do you think those details get there? Some of us have
sacrificed countless hours and enormous amounts of money to make our
Courland/Latvia website excellent and informative. Do the rest of you
think that happens by magic? And if the few of us who are doing all the
work burn out, where will that leave the rest of you? Will you grumble
then about having so little on the website? Or about the website not
having
been updated in so long? It galls me to see how willing most of you are
to
sit back and let someone else do the work or donate their hard earned
dollars/pounds/shekels to our projects when you do nothing to enjoin us
and
use the information for your own genealogy without somehow pitching in.
All
the energy that we dedicate to the general good of Courlanders and
Latvians
we have to steal >from our own personal genealogy research and our
families.
Wouldn't you think that more of you would be grateful and dedicate a
little
of your energies and money to help us? I would like to know why you
aren't
knocking down our doors in an effort to share the burden...

Your comments, donations and offers of help are always welcome!

Following Martha's recent posting it is really wonderful to see more willing
hands come forward. I will be writing to all of you within 24 hours with
various suggestions to see what you are interested in and would most enjoy
doing. Good projects need careful pre-planning so it may take a little time
to match the work up with the people but the results speak for themselves.
