Hi,
In response to the trip to Ukraine. We are doing this exact trip in
May. we are taking the river cruise and have hired a guide to take us
to Uman and Pogrebishche. These are the towns where our families came
from. I would like any information or hints anyone has on how we can
locate more precise information about families etc. Otherwise we will
be walking in their footsteps.
I will be happy to share this information with anyone when we return.
I would not want to recommend a guide before trying them.
Please contact me privately with your e-mail
and I will remember to send the report and pictures to you.

Dr Nathan ROOS - Passports - France - December 1939 #france

Joan Adler <jadfam21@...>

Dr. Nathan ROOS and his wife Luise Weiss ROOS had passports that would
enable them to leave France by December 2, 1939, the expiration date.
They were German citizens forced to leave their home in Pforzheim,
Germany in February of that year.

We know that Nathan ROOS was interred at Athis near Flers in France
from October through the end of November, possibly early December. He
wrote to his wife asking her to get their passports and visas renewed
so that they were not stuck in France forever once the passports
expired on Dec. 2..

They sailed for the US on the ship DeGrasse >from LeHavre on December
23, arriving in New York January 8, 1940.

I don't know if they had French or German passports.

I would like to know how they could have gotten their passports
renewed. Where to find copies of them. Where to find copies of their
visas - which also expired before they left Europe.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hello David,,

Have you tried to write to the municipal archives of Annecy?
I have an excellent experience with Le havre municipal archives.
I guess it will be preferable to write them in French for a more
effective help.

Good luck,

In Lodz archives (not the main building), there is a book >from the
Jewish community that lists all birth, marriages, and deaths in the
order in which they happened. It is not indexed, so it is only
accessible if you know the date. You would have to hire a researcher to
search through all the marriage records of the 30s.

You can also have someone search the Books of Residents (Ksiegi Ludnosci
& Ksiegi Kontroli Ruchu Ludnosci). If you find the household, the
marriage date of the inhabitants would be noted.

How can I find out if either of these individuals is still living in

Seeking Jacob Lewitzky of Chelsea, Massachusetts #general

Harvey Finberg <hjfinberg@...>

Jacob Lewitzky lived for at least 40 years in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
Jacob owned a rag business and was comfortably situated. I have many
documents that show he and his wife, Ida, and children living on
County Line Rd. However, he is not listed in the Massachusetts Death
records on Familysearch. In the 1955 city directory on Ancestry,
he and his wife Ida are listed as living in Miami Beach, Fl. I think they
may have been snowbirds. Jacob is not listed in the Florida death records
online. I believe he died around 1955-56. I have checked the Boston Globe
online for an obit or death notice, but did not find one. Also checked
all the Massachusetts Jewish cemeteries with online grave locators. I
have checked the Jewish Advocate Database with no luck.

Did Chelsea have its own newspaper? How would I access it? would an
obit be in another Jewish newspaper. Are city directories for Chelsea
in the 1950's online?

Any other suggestions?
