Notary records in Przemysl State Archive #galicia

Logan J. Kleinwaks

I am interested to hear >from anyone with experience accessing notary records
in the State Archive in Przemysl. How did you arrange this, can you
recommend any researchers, did you encounter any difficulties, how were the
records organized, etc.? My particular interest is in the Lancut records,
which I understand >from the Routes to Roots Foundation website exist for the
years 1861-1934.

Thanks and best regards,

On 2004.05.23, in a post under the same subject line, I provided
some incorrect information.

I got excited looking ahead to see what would be the connection to
the Belzer Rebbe of today, a contemporary as opposed to a rebbe of
yesteryear and in my excitement I said that Rabbi Amram GREENVALD of
Charna had a daughter who married Rabbi Tzvi GLICK of Satmar father
of Miriam second wife of Rabbi Mordechai (ROKEACH) of Bilgoria
father of today's Belzer Rebbe.

My apologies. In reality Rabbi Yaakov Yechezkya GREENVALD had a
daughter Golda wife of Rabbi Tzvi GLICK of Satmar father of Miriam
second wife of Rabbi Mordechai (ROKEACH) of Bilgoria whose son is
today's Belzer Rebbe, successor to his uncle Rabbi Aharon ROKEACH.

Re: Rabbi Matisyahu Treves #rabbinic

Judy Wolkovitch <judywolk@...>

In the Jewish Chronicle of 1896 there are a series of articles by
Lucien Wolf entitled "The Treves Family in England." The first
article is subtitled "The Alleged Descent >from Rashi, and some
hypotheses." I mention this because of the extensive bibliography
he lists. None of the books appear to be in Hebrew. Some of them
are in German

If anyone would like a copy of the bibliography I can sent an
attachment.

Re: HALBERSTAM - EISENBERG #rabbinic

Logan J. Kleinwaks

In the short time since I posted my question about the connection
between R' Yekusiel Yehuda HALBERSTAM, R' Pesach EISENBERG, and
R' Avraham EISENBERG of Ulanow, I have received additional
information about this topic:

1) I now have a copy of the relevant section of Dvash Hasade, so I
can confirm (relying on the translations of others) that R' Pesach
is mentioned here as having been a cantor in Lancut and the son of
the Tzadik >from Ulanow.

2) I have also been told that, in the preface to R' Avraham
EISENBERG's Toldot Avraham, the publisher, R' Avraham's son Shmuel
David, mentions that R' Avraham had a son R' Pesach zt"l, whose
son-in-law was Meir SPIRA, grandson of R' Zvi Elimelech of Dinov.

It appears that R' Pesach EISENBERG is not mentioned in R' Wunder's
Meorei Galicia (again, I am relying on translations supplied by
others, since I cannot read Hebrew).

The fact that R' Pesach lived in Lancut is important for me to know,
since it does not contradict the notion that he married my relative
Rebecca KALTER, who lived there with many other KALTERs.

I am still looking for sources that mention Rebecca, her father-in-
law Joseph HaKohen KALTER, or other of her relatives, and I would be
grateful for any information on this subject.

Thanks very much.

1920 Census Lookup Request #general

luftman1@...

I accessed the 1920 Federal Census for Detroit using the one of the commercial
services (limited license) at the Nashville Public Library and found a rather
poor copy of the entry for the Barney BARNET (as BARNETT was mispelled) family
of Detroit, Michigan (Wayne County).
Stacy Harris
Nashville, TN USA
The 1920 US Census shows Barney as age 29 (born in Mich.); Pearl as age 28 (born
in canada); and Sylvia as age 5. It shows Pearl as arrriving in USA in 1914.
(Note: The 1930 census shows Sylvia and Shirley living alone (w/o Barney) and
shows Pearl arriving in the US in 1910) The street name in 1920 is hard to read
(perhaps Emerson Ave) but the house number is 2432.
