Canada's 1921 Census to Be Released June 2013 #general

Jan Meisels Allen

Canada has a 92 year privacy rule for release of its census. The census is
in the possession of Statistics Canada. After the 92 years, the records are
transferred to the Library and Archives of Canada which will release the
census for public use. The June 1st 1921 census will be transferred June 1st
2013, but it will take some to record, catalogue, and scan and put the
images on line...therefore public access will not occur until sometime
later.

Some interesting findings in the census: the overall population of Canada
was 8,788,483 individuals and there were 5 schedules with 565 questions. To

Kamiensk, death registers for 1831 #poland #lodz

isak@bm.technion.ac.il

Dear Genners:

I was notified by the Lodz archives that they did not have any BMD data for
Kamiensk for the year 1831. Consequently the Mormon microfilms cover the
years 1826-1857 without the year 1831. Does anybody of you know whether the
re is any chance finding the 1831 BMD data (I am looking for a death
register) for Kamiensk somewhere else? Does AGAD have copies of BMD data?

Thank you
Isak Gath, Haifa

MODERATOR'S NOTE: You can search the Archival Database at the
www.rtrfoundation.org website for the town of Kamiensk to see
what records have survived and which archives hold them.

Salzer from Trebowla #poland

Milton Koch

I have determined that my PGGM, Schlome Selzer, was born in Trembowla
and married Chaim Koch and lived in Potok Zloty. Her father was Naftali.

I have received birth records >from a Naftali Salzer (mother Schlome
from Trembowla) but he was >from Budzanow (Budaniv) born in 1885. It is
clear that these two women are not the same based on their husband's
name as well as the dates involved. Can I assume that there may be a
relationship to my family with the "continuation" of a first name in the
family. If so, why would both women have the same first name, ie, his
mother as well as my PGGGM? What would the relationship be, if so?

Please respond privately.

Re: Drowning as cause of death - LAZARUS & SALOMON -Baden-Wuertemberg > USA #germany

MOD NOTES: 1. This discussion has wandered off topic but the following
message is approved to bring a new GerSIG contributor and a few related
family names into our archives.
2. Lists of names being researched must include the towns of
origin and should also include the submitter's JewishGen Researcher Code
number and a note that the names & towns have been entered in the JGFF. MOD 1

Fellow Gersiggers,

My maternal grandmother, Ida MARX, emigrated >from Hall/Steinbach (near
Schwabisch Hall), Baden-Wuertemberg to Hot Springs, Arkansas in the late
1880s, where she married my maternal grandfather, Cyrus LAZARUS. In addition
to my mother, the couple had two sons, Sid and Bill LAZARUS, both of whom
prospered in the shoe business in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

In the late 1930s, Jews who'd remained in Germany needed sponsors to leave.
The LAZARUS brothers responded positively: one of their sponsored refugees
was a boy >from Mainz, Peter SALOMON. Peter's brother, Paul, was sent to
England, where he remained and eventually raised a family. Paul's boyhood
Stammbaum is/was part of a display of such documents at the Jewish Museum Berlin.

After graduating >from high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Peter, who Americanized
his name to Peter STEELE, sought in vain to join the US Army. Refused as an
'enemy alien', he decided to go to Canada to join the Royal Canadian Forces.

When he was turned away at the border crossing, he apparently attempted
to swim >from the US side to Windsor, Ontario, and failed.

The below-cited article is >from a Tulsa newspaper reporting his death.
The 'uncle' referred to is Sid LAZARUS, more accurately a cousin. This
story was told to me by Peter's brother, Paul, when I met him in England
in 1963, but it was only recently that I found the clipping in a package
of items originally belong to Bill LAZARUS, who died in 1968, and have
shared it with both English and American relatives.
