Locating family records from Lebanon? #france

arielvfu@...

Our grandmother was born in Lebanon in 1933, she left when
she was a year old her father was a French citizen who was
born in France and moved to the Middle East.
he died shortly after my grandmother's birth in 1933-1934

we wish to find documents about them since all of the papers
they took >from Lebanon with them when they left were burned
unfortunately

Is there a way to retrieve documents? (and I must point out that
contacting Lebanon is not a realistic option these days)

We have only the names and surnames of the parents (plus my
grandmother's date of birth) We know they lived in Beirut.

Thank you
Ariel Koby

Robyn Shayne shalom -
You say "married...1902 in York, Ontario, Canada".
In 1834 the City of York changed its name to Toronto. I assume "York"
means the County of York, which is part of Toronto today.
Those researching Romanian Jews should know that the Romanian
synagogue in Toronto was called Adath Israel. I celebrated becoming a
bar mitzvah there in 1947, and my father and his parents are buried in
the synagogue's cemetery.
I suggest you go to this website -
http://www.benjaminsparkmemorialchapel.ca/Home.aspx
and click on "cemetery maps". Then click on "Roselawn Cemetery"
Scroll down to "inside Jewish cemeteries" and click on "Roselawn Cemetery".
You will see a map of the Roselawn Cemetery. You want section #2 -
Adath Israel. There are hundreds of Romanian Jews buried there.

I suggest you do a search for the surnames you are looking for at -
http://www.jewishgen.org/
In the section "JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry" search for
burials in Ontario.
The Adath Israel Synagogue has now become Conservative and is of
interest to all Jews, not just Romanians. Try their website - they may
have a database of those buried in the old cemetery on Roselawn Ave. -
