Viewmate requests (Polish? Russian?) SMOLA family of Kolo, Poland #general

David W. Perle

Hi, all. I've put four records (one birth, one marriage, two death) from
Kolo, Poland in the 1880s for the SMOLA family on Viewmate and would love
full translations. Is it right that everything up to a point in 1863 should
be in Polish and everything after that point in 1863 should be in Russian?
Hopefully these are marked properly, but obviously please just e-mail me
directly if I have anything wrong. :)

In Polish:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM33881
(1845 marriage record, Leib Smola & Ajdela/Eidel BORNSZSTAJN, my
great-great-great-great-grandparents)
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM33882
(1861 birth record for Mosiek Aron Smola, my great-great-great-
grandfather)

In Russian:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM33883
(1864 death record for Leib Smola)
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM33886
(1880 death record for Eidel Smola)

Thanks so much!

My viewmate file, a photo taken in Germany approx. 1891 is at this url:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM33898

I have learned a little more about the photo since I posted it.
It is believed to be my grandmother's eldest 4 sisters. For anyone
who knows a lot about clothing of that period, styles, hairstyles,
anything at all about interpreting photos, I'd love to hear >from you.
The family lived in Klein Reken, Germany.

from looking at the photo I think based on their order of birth, I
have guessed who is who. If you think by looking at it you disagree
with who is oldest, etc. let me know.

top left I think is Bertha, the eldest, born 1879, top right I think
is Mahle (third >from the eldest) born 1882, bottom left, I think is
the youngest of the four, Lena, born 1886, and bottom right, I think
is the second eldest, Sophia, born 1860.

Thank you so much,

Viewmate Request VM 33884 Polish translation #general

Hello.

I've posted a vital record in Polish for which I need a translation.
It is on ViewMate at the following address ...

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM33884

I believe this is the marriage of rywka RUBINSZTEJN and her parents
are david and sura rubinsztejn. I am looking for a translation of the
additional pertinent genealogical information. I was also wondering if
there was any mention if david and sura rubinsztejn are still living,
or if there is any mention of them being >from the town of bialobrzegi.

Please respond privately or via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much.

ViewMate recognition - Goldenberg/Hoffman families - 1929 - Cardiff #romania

Myra Waddell

I tried posting this family photo 9 years ago to see whether someone
might recognise anyone, with no response, so, since I have now added
more information as to date, name of the birthday girl, etc., I thought
it was time to try again.

It can be reached on

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM3106

The photo is of a family gathering to celebrate the 21st birthday of
Adella Blanchard in 1929, probably in Cardiff.

Della's grandmother was Etta Goldenberg (b. ca 1836 somewhere in
Romania) married to Aaron Hirsh Hoffman (b. ca 1835 Braila (Brailov)
Romania.

Her parents were Rose (nee Hoffman) b. 1873 somewhere in France and Leon
Blanchard b. 1864 somewhere in Russia.

Can anyone recognise any person in this photo, besides Della? Maybe some
of these guests are part of your family.

Thanks in advance. Myra Waddell. South Australia.

BORKOVSKY - Kolno, Poland; Irkutsk, Siberia; Hailar and Harbin, China;
Israel.
BORZIANSKY - Kamyanets-Podolskiy and Vinnitsa, Ukraine.
GOLDENBERG - Bucharest, Romania; Paris, France. England.
HOFFMAN - Braila and Bucharest, Romania.
UZNER/HAUSNER/OSNER/POSNER - Chotyn and Kishinev, Bessarabia/Romania.

Descendants of Lajzer and Sluwa BICK (or BIK or BYK) #galicia

Reuven Liebes <reuvel@...>

I am searching for descendants of Lajzer and Sluwa BICK (or BIK or BYK).
I was born in Lwow, my all family perished in Holocaust. Searching JRI
and Gesher Galicia Data base, I revealed persons of my parents'
families.

My father Maurycy LIEBES, born in 1897 Lwow, was the son of Jozef
LIEBES (born 1856) and Roza Rajzel BICK (or BIK or BYK), Lajzer and
Sluwa's daughter. Jozef and Roza also had a daughter Zuzana (1887)
and a son Bernard (1891). I remembered that my father had told me
about his mother's family who had emigrated to USA probably in
beginning XX century.

Moment Magazine has an article on the Jewish history of Arizona
focusing on Phoenix and Tucson at:
http://www.momentmag.com/jewish-routes-arizona/

The article talks of early Jewish pioneers, cowboys, entertainers,
lawmen and ranchers. Jewish women were in short supply- making the
young Jewish men travel to New York, California or Tennessee to meet
their brides.

The first Arizona synagogue-Temple Emanu-El -- was in Tucson and
opened in 1910-- today Tucson has over a dozen synagogues and greater
Phoenix over 40. The article talks of the first Jewish mayors in
several towns other than Phoenix and Tucson. Some may remember that
Josephine Sarah Marcus >from San Francisco met and fell in love with
Wyatt Earp in Tombstone. Tombstone has an historic Jewish Cemetery and
monument on Boothill to honor the Jewish pioneers. The Jewish History

Changes to format of individual messages #usa

Dick Plotz

In the last couple of months, JewishGen has had to contend with new
policies ("DMARC") >from several e-mail providers that have affected
all Internet e-mail lists. For a couple of weeks many posts failed to
reach about half of our subscribers to individual messages ("Mail"
mode). Digest subscribers were not affected. We were able to change
our settings so all our subscribers are now receiving posts, but it
became difficult to respond directly to the sender of the post.

We have now changed the settings for Mail mode to fix this problem.
If you receive individual posts, you will notice two changes:

1. The sender's e-mail address will appear as part of the "From" line
in the post.

2. If you "Reply" to a post (but not to a digest), the reply will go
to the sender.

As a reminder, the mailing lists are intended for posts of general
interest. Personal responses to and questions about a post should be
directed to the sender of the post. The lists are not appropriate
places to conduct personal correspondence.

To read more about the technical aspects of DMARC and how the new
policies are affecting e-mail lists, see
