Rabbi Yakov "Kopel Hasid" HAGER (Abt. 1730 - 1787) , the TaZ and Tosafot Yom Tov #rabbinic

Aaron Slotnik

Hello,

In the course of researching Rabbi Yakov HAGER of Kolomea (also known
as Yakov Kopel Hasid), I have several questions that I'm hoping members
of this forum can assist in resolving.

Regarding his descendants, one of his sons is the well-known Rabbi
Menachem Mendel HAGER (1768 - 1825), father of the Kosover and
Vizhnitzer Hasidic dynasties. He also had a daughter named Blima who
married Rabbi Uri Strelisker (1757 - 1826). I've read that he had
another son, presumably older than R' Menachem Mendel, named Rabbi
Yitzchak Itzik. Does anyone know any additional information about this
son or can point me to sources to consult to learn about him? Does he
have an entry in Meorei Galicia?

Regarding his ancestors, there is very good, seemingly well-researched
and reliable information about him in the Kolomea (Kolomyya, Ukraine)
yizkor book at
https://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kolomyya/kol096.html#Page112
in entry 13. The author of that section, a descendant of rabbis
himself, lists the sources he used in general but does not provide
specific source citations for each entry. He states that Rabbi Yakov
Kopel's wife Chaya is a descendant of the TaZ son Rabbi Shlomo HaLevi
Segal (d. 1664) and the Tosafot Yom Tov's sister Perl; however,
assuming that is correct there seems to be a generation or possibly
two missing in each case. Can anyone provide the correct line of
descent or point me to sources that may help clarify?

Finally, one way of interpreting the entry implies that Rabbi Kopel
Hasid's father Rabbi Nechemiah Feivel and his wife's father Rabbi
Zalman were brothers (" . . . Rabbi, Reb Zalman, who was also the
uncle and father-in-law of the above mentioned Rabbi, Reb Kopl
Hasid . . . "). I suspect that is incorrect, but that is how it is
depicted on Geni. Can anyone clarify that point?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Our Skala Research Group is pursuing several projects that we would
appreciate advice.

1) Several people in our Skala Research Group will be visiting Skala
Podolskaya (Eastern Galicia) this summer. I am suggesting that they talk
with folks there who were alive at the time of the holocaust and ask them
what happened. What questions do you suggest we ask and any other
advice on how to interview them, how to approach them, etc.

2) The cemetery wall that was built by the Skala Benevolent Society in
1998 has deteriorated. We are checking to see if it has stabilized or
continues to deteriorate. If it needs further work, what suggestions do
you have for dealing with this. Make patches to the wall, replace wall,
put up iron posts which some towns have done, etc.

3) We want to interview of few of the members of our group who were
born in Skala and survived the holocaust. Welcome suggestions on
interview questionnaires.

4) We have many files of data, etc. We do not want to put all of that on
our town website, but perhaps a link to another website. Right now we
have on the google drive of one of our members. members. What do you
suggest as a more general site. We could create a google drive for our
town or a dropbox site.

5) Sharing family trees. We would like to share family trees and DNA
results privately and not publicly. Suggestions.

Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania in order to know the truth about
their past during the two world wars."

For those who are not familiar with Romanian archives:

Tens if not hundred of thousands of records >from WWII era were scanned
by Yad Va Shem and the US Holocaust Museum.
Securitate and the Kingdom era security organization (Sigurantza)
archives are open.
Anyone can get to a Romanian archive and study the available records.
To my best knowledge - the one important material that is kept
confidential are the raw forms of the 1942 Jewish Census (though a
small part of it was found by Rom-Sig and digitized). This material is
considered confidential due to privacy reasons.
Thus, I don't see any real change.

On March 24, Daniel Weinberger was puzzling about the fact that he
matches to a woman whom he calls "Anna" but not to Anna's sons, while
his own son does not match to Anna but does match to Anna's son's.
Could this be explained by a relationship between his son's mother and
Anna's sons' father?

Seeking Info on Yehoshua Wolfsthal #galicia

Yaron Wolfsthal

Dear Colleagues,

I am conducting research about my family >from Galicia. The family has
largely in Ternopol (family of musicians that formed the well known
Wolfsthal Kapelle ensemble), Lwow (as documented in the Maksymilian
Wolfsthal memoirs viewable at the USHMM) and Husiatyn (birthplace
of the part who came to Israel before the Shoah). Some gaps do exist
in the family tree, in particular about Yehoshua WOLFSTHAL who
moved out of the region. I've exhausted sources and hope this group
can help shed light on him.

The information I've gathered indicates that Yehushua was the
Headmaster of the Jewish Gymnasium in Wolkowisk before WW2, and
in 1935 he married a teacher who worked in that school (Czarna Nusia,
also listed in YvS). Their marriage took place at the house of the
bride's relatives in Katowice.

My challenge is identifying Yehushua WOLFSTHAL's parents, birth
date & place. I believe that would help resolve his ties to the larger
family in Galicia.

I am looking for advice/assistance in (1) direct information on
Yehoshua's info (parents/date/place, and/or (2) pointers to archives
where I may search for un-indexed information about him.

Thanks for any information/advice.

Daniel,

What is the size of the total segments matches between you and
Anna
Adrian
Abel

What is the size of the total segments matches between your son and
Anna
Adrian
Abel

What is the size of the total segments matches between your son's mother
and
Anna

Also, if you phase your son's matches on GedMatch, and Anna does the
same for her son's, and then compare, you will eliminate many false

Hi Dan

Most likely there is some DNA matching with Anna's son etc however it
is much smaller so is not showing. Remember each person has a different
amount of DNA material they receive >from parents, grandparents etc. I
have a strong match (with a know relative) with one person but none
showing with her brother.

I am confused. I made a DNA testing with MyHeritage and got a match with a
woman we can call Anna. But there is no match between Anna and a son of mine
who has also been tested. Maybe his DNA >from me didn't contain DNA that I
share with Anna.

Anna's sons Adrian and Abel has also been tested. There is no match between
me and any of them but between them and my tested son.

How come?
