The number of messages that are not in plain text are increasing
day by day.

Moderators *can* -- by some workarounds -- "convert" encoded
messages to plain text (but it is a time-consuming job.
As the number of encoded messages increase it becomes impossible
for the moderators to cope and I therefore want to remind you all
of the guidelines for writing message to JewishGen mailing lists
summarized it adds up to:

1. Please remember to send all messages in PLAIN TEXT only
2. Sign your Full Name, city and state or country
3. If you receive the "DIGEST" DO NOT hit the 'reply'-button
because then your reply copies the entire digest!
(and the moderator will have to delete most of it)
INSTEAD: Copy and paste a relevant portion of it in your
e-mail with your response, so that everyone can see to
what message you are replying.
4. CAPITALIZE all SURNAMES (Sometimes it can be difficult to
distinguish between surnames, given names and place names.
Therefore it is important that all surnames are CAPITALIZED.

This is only a short reminder, so I would kindly ask you to
read:

Adoption #warsaw #poland

loeffler <loeffler@...>

Dear friends
I was born on 21 July 1930. in Warsaw. I was told that I was adopted from
Jewish family. Now I try to find my roots. Would anyone know where the
adoption pappers could be archived?. Could there be any Jewish record about
adoption?
I would appreciate any clues and suggestion on how to progress with my
reserch.
Yours sincerely

Some of you may want to visit a website that was just announced in the
latest set of messages I've received >from the EEJH mail group. This
website, using information provided by Dr. Felix A. Theilhaber, concerns
Jewish aviators who flew and fought for Germany during WW I. Dr.
Theilhaber wrote and published a book about Jewish aviators during that
war which was not well received. He later settled in Palestine. See:

http://people.sinclair.edu/thomasmartin/knights/index.htm

The presentations have notes and pictures of Willie Rosenstein, Wilhelm
Frankel Friedrich Rudenberg, Fritz Beckhardt, Berthold Guthmann, and
Immanuel Saul. This website's viewers are invited to share what they may
know about Jewish fighter pilots during the "Great War."

The site also has a link to still another relevant URL entitled "Jewish
Quandary." It concerns Jewish soldiers of the German/Austrian/Hungarian
Empires. See:

http://judischequandry.tripod.com/

from this URL one can "click" to two sub-sites, one about German Jewish
soldiers, and the other about Austro-Hungarian Jewish soldiers.

Luboml Documentary #lithuania

Eileen Douglas <faithdouglas@...>

Dear LitvakSiggers, For those of you who would find a documentary
showing and celebrating shtetl life intriguing to watch, I want to let
you know of several showings of our new film "Luboml:My Heart
Remembers".

/Channel 21, one of the New York television stations, will air the documentary at 10 p.m. on April 29th, which is Holocaust Remembrance Day.WLIW is viewed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. ..and for some, I am told, on Direct TV.

The History Channel in Israel will broadcast the Luboml documentary at 7:20 p.m. on April 29th, and we take that as a great honor to be their Holocaust Remembrance presentation.

In addition, there is a screening on April 23rd in New York City as part of the Anthology Film Series. The film is shown at 6:30 at the Anthology Theater at 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street, with a Q-and-A with my partner and myself to follow.

Other broadcasts may follow in other locations. And a screening at the Cinemateque in Tel Aviv is also in the works.

Lastly, Cinema Guild is the distributor and they make arrangements for screenings and rental or sales of videos. We do not share in this revenue, but I would direct anyone who wants more information to www.cinemaguild.com.

We have had a marvelous journey to the once vibrant world of our Eastern European roots and hope all those we can watch will enjoy what we have already had the pleasure of being part of bringing to the screen.

BRZOZA means "birch" (the tree) in Polish.

My questions are:
1) What does BRZOZA mean in polish?
2) While his name could have been Zelek Menashe (or the inverse), was
this combination at all common (such as Menachem Mendel)?

Thanks,
