researching: ROZENCWEIG from Warsaw/Makow #poland

Marty Meyers <meyers01@...>

I've got a new name to research.

In 1896, there is a Warsaw marriage of Mendel BORDOWICZ and Pesa Raca
ROZENCWEIG.

Later records show that they had children born in Makow Maz.

I have the Makow records but have not yet ordered the marriage record >from
Warsaw so I do not know the names of either of their parents.

Mendel BORDOWICZ is now the 4th MendelB I have found in the
Makow/Przasnsyz/Ciechanow area, all related to my grandmother
Ruchel Bordowitz (one Mendel was her father and Mindla was
her great-grandmother).

If this sounds familiar, please contact me privately at
<meyers01@comcast.net>

Re: thanks to all #general

I don't know if it's list "protocol" or not to express thanks
publicly, but I'm pretty new to this list and was impressed with the
number of responses I received via e-mail to my recent inquiry about
the designation "Russian" for 19th c. Polish Jews. It's been a great
history and culture lesson and has clarified much. Just think how
long it would take to get so many responses and interaction before
the advent of the Internet...

MODERATOR'S NOTE: It's always nice to hear -- and see -- the words
"thank you", whether for breakthroughs made as a result of the JRI-
Poland database or the helpfulness of JRI-Poland list readers.

Hello, Folks:

Anyone related to a Vilna doctor family that immigrated to Baltimore in the
early 1900s?

I am trying to see if there is a connection between this group and my
great-grandmother Toba Rabinovich Bunes.

Thanks,

Rebekah Berger

I'm so glad you were posting today. I'm new at learning about my
relatives -- the smuggler included -- and all the information you posted
will help me. Once, I thought it was impossible to find anything in
Lithuania because of the Nazis. Now I know, there's a lot more out there if
I'm willing to look, to reach out and to keep trying.

How do I post a message asking others if they know anything about
my grandfather Nathan Joffe >from Liepaja (Leibow) Latvia?

You post a message just like you did with this one.
However, to insure a good possibility of replies and relevant
information make sure that you write all that you know about your
grandfather (name, dates of birth, marriage, death, occupation etc.)
If you just write the name and no dates, noone can be sure whether
he lived in the 18th, 19th or 20th century -- and probably noone
will bother to reply.
Good luck!

Dear Josie,
I can't help you on your Levene family but I have a suggestion. If
there were lots of stones on your grandfather's grave, maybe somebody
visits there regularly. Why don't you leave a note (or ask some kind
volunteer to do it for you) encased in plastic somehow wedged securely
yet visibly in your grandfather's gravestone? My family made contact
with a forgotten set of 2nd cousins through their Ggrandfathers grave
in East Ham cemetery in just that manner.

Last December I visited the grave of my grandfather Israel Chaim
Levene d
December 1947. He is buried alongside his second wife (my
grandmother) whom
he was married to for 45 years. What startled me was that there were
a lot
of stones placed on my grandfather's grave ONLY (but not my
grandmother's)
which would indicate that someone might have recently visited his
grave. As
I am convinced that there hasn't been a visit to the cemetary >from my
part
of the family for at least 10 years, it is quite feasible that these
stones
may have been placed their by descendents of his first marriage.
