Yizkor Books in Print #scandinavia

Lance Ackerfeld <lance.ackerfeld@...>

Shalom,

I am extremely excited to announce the "kick off" of a new Yizkor Book
Project initiative called "Yizkor Books in Print". The idea behind this
project is to make hard copies of books that have been completely translated
in the Yizkor Book Project and make these books be available for purchase by
the descendants of these communities, university and synagogue libraries and
museums.

This project could not have come into existence had it not been for Joel
Alpert who has kindly agreed to be the Project Advisor for this enterprise.
The next stage is to look for people to fill the tasks required in this
project. If you have a background in the editing and graphics fields and,
especially, if you have had previous experience in preparing books for
publishing, we'd be very pleased to hear >from you.

If you are interested in receiving further details of the people needed for
the project, please click on this link
http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/ybip.html and if you feel able to assist,
contact Joel using the link appearing on this page.

Yours,
One very excited Yizkor Book Project Manager,

My grandfather's brother, Nathan Granat, briefly lived in Tulsa,Oklahoma. His World
War I draft card was issued there. Do any of you genners have any ideas on why he
would have gone to Tulsa? He eventually moved to New Jersey.

Thanks.

Re; Why St. Louis? #general

Barry Finkel <bsfinkel@...>

My great grandfather, Solomon RUDMAN, came to the United States from, I believe,
Zaslawye, Belarus in 1894. He immigrated through New York to St. Louis with
some of his children; his wife and other children came to St. Louis in 1895.
...Was something going on in St. Louis at this time that was attractive to
immigrant Russian Jews? Was any attempt made to "recruit" immigrant
Jews to St. Louis?
My ggf went >from NYC to Davenport, Iowa because he was a carpenter, and the social
agency found work for him in a window factory there.
