Dora JACOBSON (Doris) #courland #latvia

As I look at my meager history I see that my dad thinks her father was
Howard and mother Henrietta (not sure of this and of course this would be the
English translations) She died August 4, 1050 but never revealed her true age.
Her children were Jessie (my aunt) and Howard (my father) Her husband was
Bernhard Goldberg >from Russia (perhaps)
Her siblings were Joseph, Isaac, Bernard, Jacob and Adelaide.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Moshe Werber <werbermm@...>

Dear SA SIG discussion group members,

I'm looking for information on my late great-aunt Leah (Elka?) Katz, nee
Wolpert, born ~1891 in Keidan, Lithuania and possible descendants. The name
of her father was Notel Wolpert and her mother was Sarah-Devorah Biron.
I only know that in 1946-47 she was in South Africa (I don't knew when she
emigrated >from Lithuania) and had been in touch (several letters) with her
half-sister, my late grandmother, Rywa Trocki-Musnicki, nee Wolpert, and
with my late mother, Shifra (Sofia) Werber, nee Trocki-Musnicki, who lived
at that time in Brussels, Belgium.

My great-aunt was then - in 1947, living with her husband, Moses or Moshe?
Katz at the following address: 49, Berea Rd. , Bertrams, Johannesburg.
However, 2 letters sent - >from Israel - in 1962 were never answered and the
last one was even returned in January 1963 as undeliverable.

There is an estate probate file for a Leah Katz in the Transvaal archives,
but I could not find out if this is that of my great-aunt.

There was a Jack Wolpert who was a well-known chess player in South Africa,
even wining the South African chess championship once in 1937. Search for

the Hebrew name Itsky Batsky #hungary

Amos Israel Zezmer <amos.zezmer@...>

I recently interviewed a cousin who told me that her Hebrew name was
equivalent to the phonetic "Itsky Batsky."

As she writes:

I'm afraid I can't explain any more to you about my hebrew or jewish
name. My mother doesn't remember a thing about the origin of that name
"Itsky Batsky" though it was familiar to her when I reminded her of it.
(I am reporting the name phonetically as I heard it said.) My father's
father was a cantor in an orthodox synagogue at the time of my birth
[1947] so perhaps the name was given by him in that congregation. I'm
only guessing.

I am stumped. Does anyone have any inkling as to what Itsky Batsky could
actually be?
