Re: Given name of Label/Labe #ukraine

The name Leib is Yiddish for Aryeh or Yehuda, which refers to lion. It is
in fact a very common name. Label is a nickname. Many of my cousins, my
father-in-law, as well as my brother have this name.

Mitzi Smetters asks:

Two of my gggrandfathers had the given name of Label or Labe (Label
MICHELSON b. 1820 in Prussia and Labe BOBROV/BABROV of the same
generation).
I have not seen this given name of Label or Labe anywhere else. Is any
one familiar with this as a given name? Could it be a title rather than
a name.

Mitzi Smetters asked in her message of 11-8-00 about the name "Labe" or
"Label."

I think it is a form of Lieb or Liebel, and one can find discussions of
this name in Jewishgen's Discussion Group Archives.

Hohenberg family in Hungary #hungary

Michael Stahre <stahre@...>

Dear members

My great grandfather was born in Petersdorf(Peterlak), Hungary.
His name was Emanuel Hohenberg, born 18 December 1863. He later moved to
Vienna, Austria.
Does anyone know anything about him or his family. Family tradition says
that he had a lot of siblings.

Thanks
Katarina Stahre

Where are magazine "The news of Deported People" and newspaper "New Life" #hungary

Susanne Belovari <belovari@...>

Hallo! 8.11.00

I have been informed that there was a magazine "The name of deported people"
as well as a newspaper "New Life" that appeared in 1945 after the war. In
those papers, people made inquiries for lost family members. The Jewish
Community seems to have been the publisher?

Does anyone know where these papers are located? In Hungary? and its
National Library? Or?

Also: there seems to be an orbituary collection in Hungary that might
contain obituaries of Jews having died in the holocaust. Does anyone know
where this collection might be located? And has anyone had experience in
using it and thought it useful?

I have already contacted the National Library of Hungary with the above
questions.

Thank you, Susanne Belovari

novotrade <novotrade@...>

Dear Members,
one of the publishing houses in Bratislava published

The publication contents the former hungarian-sounding names
of all locations in the past and their recent Slovak names=20
and vice-versa.
The book on 240 pages shows a wonderfull resource for all those
who are active in genealogy and/or are studying old records.
The publication was compiled by my close friend Mr. Imre Czibulka.
In the case of interest I am ready to check how to obtain some copies
and be helpfull to send them who is interested.=20
They were printed 500 copies only in the first edition.
About the price I let you know after contacts with the publisher.=20
It will be probably depend on the quantity will be requested.

Till today I have got seven positive requests only.=20
Those are to few to negotiate the publisher to obtain the books=20
