ViewMate - a few names written in German Gothic characters #general

Howard Fink <HowGen@...>

Now that I have learned how to read German Gothic printing I am
still unable to read some of the poorly written handwritten names
that use these characters. Please help me figure out these names
which occur on pages that otherwise use Roman characters. The
pages are all Birth records >from the town of Tarnow.

These are on ViewMate at the following links:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM27084
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM27085
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM27086
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM27087

Please respond with name interpretations via the form provided in the
ViewMate application.

I would be interested to learn why sometimes just the given name and
other times just the surname have been entered this way among many
pages of names that are written only using Roman characters. Since it
sometimes occurs in the parent's name and other times the newborn's
name it doesn't seem to indicate any special status. Perhaps this
answer might be of interest to the whole group.

Thank you very much,

Roman or Gothic characters may be posted to the List.

New to the group. Trying to get started #dna

Ron Miller

Hi to the DNA group

I am new to the DNA digest. I have some basic questions.
I submitted my DNA as part of a medical study to 23andme.com. I am still
active in that study by completing various questionnaires. I wrote to them
to see if they had any information that I could use for my genealogical
research. In Nov 2010, 23andme told me I was J1c3-P58 >from my Paternal Y-DNA
and H3 >from my Maternal. Mother's family is >from Minska Geburnia in Belarus.
This is consistent with me being a Cohain. I have traced my male ancestors
back to 1796 to western Galicia (Debica) and believe all the direct male
names had HaCohain appended on them. The family name was MOSTKOWITZ with
alternate spellings of MORDKOWITZ or MORTKOWITZ.
Now I don't see that J1c3-P58 designation any more. I don't know how many
markers they used to determine my Haplogroups or if they use the same
markers as FT-DNA.
Should I ask 23andme for more results or can I request that they send my DNA
analysis to FT-DNA?
Should I request the raw data?
I'm the son that doesn't know what question to ask.
Can someone start me off in the correct direction.

No DNA Match to first cousin once removed #dna

Marilyn Silva <marilynsilva32@...>

Hi;

I just received my analysis that was done with Ancestry. I am confused
about the matches I have been sent. I have a second cousin that is not
listed and I don't understand why. Her father and I are first cousins.
I know this for a certainty.

Also I know that her husband submitted her DNA, just as I did. I have
another second cousin that has this person on her list. Why would one
of us have her on the list of matches and not another?

Marilyn Silva

TRELER or TRILH, Gdynia #danzig #gdansk #germany #poland

Dror

Shalom,
My father's sister was called in Hebrew Batya Basha Treler or Trilh (they
called themselves both forms) during the war or after she changed her name
to Anna Z'linska.
Before the war she lived in Israel until the thirties when she was deported
by the British because of her communist tendencies. During the war she was
a partisan and after the war adopted a son along with her partner. While
the child grew up, he married and had two daughters. The entire family
lived in Gdynia and my aunt had a significant role in the shipyards. Her son
worked there as well and during one of his sailing he defected to Canada.
Basha (Anna Z'linska) died in the early seventies and buried in the city.
I also had a cousin living in southern Poland called Haiim Treler or Trelh,
son of my father's brother who was named Leo - Leibel who perished in the
Holocaust. Haim died in the 90's in Poland. Have had at least one son.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Bella Ezov
