My great grandmother's name was Bertha, but her
tombstone reads (>from right to left):
bet-yod-lamed-hay (space) chet-yod-hay

My great aunt's name was Sylvia, her but her tombstone
reads (>from right to left):
hay-bet-tet-vav-lamed-hay (space)zayin-lamed-daled-hay

How would you pronounce these names in English?
For your ggm
Her names were Baile Chaya

For your aunt the wording says 'habetulah'(which means the young
unmarried girl or, literally, virgin) Zelda.

My father-in-law, Joseph GOREN, born Joseph Robert GORENSTEIN, living in
Philidelphia, remembered a relation Anna BURD/BRODSKY but not how they are
related, possibly via his mother Frances BREITER GORENSTEIN? Any connection?

Location Of Burial Plot #general

2. Also, I have been told that, where a husband and wife are buried, side
by side, the wife must not have a Male (stranger)on her other side. Is
this so?

Our local cemetery (Gush Etzion) does this, but it is not halacha. It is also very
problematic logistically.

Re: Given name of Label/Labe #ukraine

Gamulka@...

Labe or Label is a common given name in Yiddish. It was my grandfather's
name and it was mine before I hebrewcized it to Arye. Often the name is
also added to Yehuda. Sometimes the spelling may be Leib or Leibl. It
really depends on the kind of Yiddish pronounciation one follows.

Leibel is a diminutive of Leib, which is a fairly common first name.
