Jewish Colonial-Revolutionary War Ancestors?? #usa

rebecca baldwin <calicomist@...>

Hi-
I'm looking for Jews who served in the American Revolutionary War. I'm directly descended >from 6 (maybe 7).

Names I'm looking for: Jacon MILLER, (born ca. 1710) married Margaret MILLER, MUELLER; came to U.S. through port of Philadelphia, PA.

Jacon ROHRER-daughter Catherine (CORTEEN) RUSH, ROHRER married Augustine COMER, born ca. 1750. Comer's brother was Michael COMER, and father was Christopher COMER, or vice-versa. They came to the US >from Germany, during the time of the colonies.

David ADKINS, born ca. 1749. Married Catherine Plumley, born ca.1768.

Fielding BALDWIN, born ca. 1810, married Priscilla ESTEP, born ca. 1810. Daughter of Shadrach ESTEP, married Elizabeth HUNT. His father was Shadrach, then Thomas, then John.

Joshua MITCHELL, born in Paris, France, ca. 1750. He came to serve in the American Revolutionary War with Layfayette; liked it here and decided to stay. He married 1) Mary? SMITH, 2) Elizabeth STIGARD.

Others, but that's a start for now-

Anybody else with colonial Jewish ancestors? Would like to hear >from you-

Becky Baldwin

->Moderator's note: Please include your place of residence with your signature, and remember to CAPITALIZE only surnames, not place names or first names. Thanks.

Help with photo #lithuania

Lazar Kleit <lazarkl@...>

I have posted two photos on ViewMate - VM file 110 - of my father in army
uniform. I believe the pictures were taken circa 1905, and one viewer
informed me that the uniform was Russian and showed no rank. I would
appreciate any other information regarding approximate dates of service,
military unit, etc., that anyone may know.

Thanks in advance.

LitvakSIG Digest of November 28 #lithuania

Litvaks@...

It appears that some AOL users may not have received the Litvak SIG Digest
dated November 28, with the following messages:

1. Sloboka Yeshiva Students List?
2. Descendents of a Cantonist
3. Wolkowysk, Grodno, Russia approx 1875
4. Donn/Dunn
5. Help? Yiddish card NY->London 1910

This is becoming an increasingly frequent problem for AOL users,
caused by AOL's reading of digest messages as spam.

There are two things you can do.

To get the digest with the above postings, send a message to

lyris@lyris.jewishgen.org

Leave the subject line blank

In the body of the message, put: get litvaksig 20001128

This, however, is a short term solution. Because this can be expected to happen again, AOL users might want to sign up for one of the free e-mail programs and subscribe to the LitvakSIG Digest and any other digests with that program.

If you still want to use your AOL e-mail program to send messages to the digest, keep that subscription as well, but you can choose to set it to "nomail". You can do that on the JewishGen homepage, in the "Manage your subscription" option under SIG Discussion Groups.

I believe "Fiddler on the Roof" was largely based on "Life is with People"
-- they share the same romanticized view of the shtetl.
