Searching Altura(e) family - Brody, Vienna, Poland #galicia

Diane S. Climo <cldl@...>

In my research, I frequently come across my family name, Altura (e),
hyphenated with another word - Ostiller. I assumed it was another
surname (by marriage?) or something like that. Recently, however, I
came across the family name in several directories on the Genealogy
Indexer (Podkarpacka Digital Library) that are confusing. I began to
think that perhaps the word means some kind of profession/work or
other designation. I am asking for help and if possible, a translation of
the following Hungarian listing:

1. Osztiller Ozlasne (accent over the a and e) ozv. Sapka-keszito
(Alture Gy.) VI. Lazar-u 11 Budapest Telephone Directory

2. 1907/1908 Budapest Address and Business Directory:
Alture Osziller Oszkar, sapkakesz., VI, kiraly-us 16.

Any help will be appreciated.

New Bessarabia SIG Project #bessarabia

Terry Lasky

My name is Terry Lasky and I am the project leader for a new
Bessarabia SIG project.

We possess a book (written in Romanian) which contains "A list of
people in Bessarabia persecuted by the Soviets before and after WWII".
Most of these people were sent to Siberia. Those persecuted before the
war were mostly rich people, business owners, etc., so about 30% of them
were Jewish. Those persecuted after the war were mainly those who had
collaborated with the enemy or business owners missed before the war, so
there were only about 5% Jews. The primary information consists of the
town they were from, year of the persecution, surname, given name, year
of birth and reason for persecution.

I will be filling in the Excel spreadsheet with all columns of information
except the "reason for persecution". The reason is usually 1-3 lines in
length and requires volunteers who are proficient in Romanian to English
translation. If you wish to volunteer please contact me privately at
terryalasky@gmail.com
