Those of you who are coming to our library this Thursday please make sure that you
have a copy of the Bronx Bakers Outline.[B Krantz please note]Today I have
completed my outline of landsmanshaften and shtetl based Workmans Circle archives
at the AJHS desk. It will be available on a website as soon as Irene Newman is
able to get it on site. Again I wish to call your attention to the marvelous array
of advertisements. In a Vilner journal >from 1929 it was interesting to note that
Ratners and Moskowitz and Lupowitz had prominent pages.

SSDI, Death Act and Maiden Name #general

Daniel Vangheluwe <vangheluwe-smietan@...>

Dear genners

I am searching the death in NY of Rywka SMIETAN spouse GERSON born in Warsaw in
1898. I already founded the death of his husband ( 16-11_1886 warsaw) in Far
Rockaway, Queens, NY, on mars 1969. (source Socia Security Death Index)

I founded the death of Regina GERSON (born 22 may 1898) on May 1972, Far Rockaway
to (source Socia Security Death Index). I suppose Regina could be equivalent of
Rywka, but I am a little surprised to "not" find her maiden name SMIETAN. Is it
possible? Could it be the same on her death act?

Louis Street Cemetery in Leeds, Yorkshire #general

Whew!!!!!!!!

After 2 years of on and off searching, with the help of Sherry Landa (British
Jewry Listserv), I have discovered the burial place of a number of my direct
relatives.

Now for the next step - to determine where the burial records are for these
people. The burial dates range >from 1905 - 1957.

So if anyone has any ideas of:

1) Is this still an active cemetery?
2) If not active, who maintains it?
3) If not active, how does one arrange to visit a gravesite?
4) Who has the original burial records?
5) How can they be contacted?

Thank you, in advance, for any help you can provide.
