Ordering records from Przemysl Archives #galicia

Let me correct my earlier post.

I plan to order records >from the Przemysl Archives in about ten days.

If you have records in the JRI-Poland database that are located in
Przemysl Archives (you can tell because the headings in the search
results will say "Przemysl Archives"), speak to me offlist.

Concentration Camps #general

Rayleen Paradowski <rayleenp@...>

Recent discussions on this site have made me wonder about the circumstances
of my husband's parents whose family I am trying to trace. Their Marriage
Certificate states that they were married in the chapel of the Polish Centre
at Gottingen Luttich Kaserne in February 1949 prior to being sent to
Australia as refugees in December that year. Was this a concentration camp?
Does anybody know anything about this place? Any information most welcome.

Rochester NY Thanks #general

Peggy Morrow

I have thanked everyone individually but wanted to do a group thanks. In
case anyone hesitates to ask for help on JewishGen, I want you to know that
I received many e-mails containing helpful Rochester, Monroe County, and NY
links. People even looked Mrs. I Davis up in Ancestry and Family Search
(and both found the same people!). With all the help I got, I am well on my
way to breaking down this brick wall!

With much appreciation,

Check out the JewishGen "A Guide to Interpreting Passenger List
Annotations" page at http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/manifests/

I found some notations with my great aunt's entry on the passenger manifest.
Next to her name, Feige Morris are the numbers 663/757. A few columns over
are the numbers 2 717897 4-14-40. I've tried to use the info on Jewishgen,
but I'm still confused as to what the numbers mean.

I've never seen the name "Fuel" in any names list.
"Fuel" is a common (Polish/Galitsyaner) abbreviation for "Refuel" = Rafael
In Lithuania it would have been "Foyl" or "Foly"

Alexander Sharon replied:

"Schalen" is most probably another variation name of the mighty Jewish town
Siauliai in Lithuania. One of the town known variant name is Schaulen.
I would only add the comment that a "Russland" country and "German" identity
is not so improbable. Russia was filled with many different ethnic groups,
and the Baltic was filled with ethnic Germans. Those of you who have visited
Vilnius may remember the park next to the wedding palace on Ciurlionis street

Can you identify this town? #ukraine

noshowclc@...

Years ago I posted a town listed on a Liverpool to Boston manifest.
Many people tried to identify it but were unable. Now I have scanned
what looks like the same town >from a Hamburg to Liverpool manifest.
This one is a bit better quality and handwriting, but just barely.
Can anyone tell the name of this town by looking at it? If too small,
I can a bigger version. These people did come >from the Ukraine and
were originally >from the Kiev area, although I don't know if this is
where they were in 1913, the year of this voyage.

Thank you in advance.

Naturalization - Court of Common Pleas - New York 1907 #general

Kay Miller

Henry Males, b 1862 in Russia and d 1914 in the Bronx, is my grgrandfather.
He was naturalized on January 7, 1907 at the New York Court of Common Pleas.
According to an online search, the Court of Common Pleas did not exist after
about 1895 or so.

I would be very grateful is someone could help me with this conflicting
information. My goal is to find his naturalization papers and discover where
exactly he came from.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.
