Exciting Marijampole File Translated #lithuania

Howard Margol

Recently, a Marijampole District file about former soldiers in the
Lithuanian Army, 1937-1940, was translated and is available to Members
of the Suwalki District Research Group (DRG). The records contain a
wealth of exciting information.

Aid allocation to former soldiers and personal files of the recipients,
1937-1940. Is arranged in alphabetical order. It contains personal files of
Jewish soldiers and includes 159 names, including a personal application
form for the aid of the soldier's family. All family members (wife,
children, parents, sometimes parents in law and siblings) are listed in
the form, adding their age, residential address, property, and health
situation in case there is a concern in this regard. The file also gives
information about applicant's profession (occupation), date of the start
and location of his military service.

With the military service information, a researcher can contact the
Central Archive in Vilnius and obtain the complete military record of
the former soldier. Without that information, it would not be possible.

If you are not already a member of the Suwalki DRG, you should join and
not only see these records but also thousands of other records for the
various towns in the Suwalki District which are in present day Lithuania.

Go to www.litvaksig.org/contribute/ and contribute $100 to LitvakSIG,
designated for the Suwalki DRG. I am sure it will turn out to be a very
wise investment that will further your research efforts.

VM 18664: Do You Recognize? #general

Carol Jaffe <cmjaffe@...>

Genners:
I'm hoping someone might recognize the man in this photo. This photo was in
the wallet belonging to my late grandfather Paul A Meyer, he died 2 Sept
1958 and was originally >from Germany and at the end of his life lived in
North Arlington, NJ. Other photos in his wallet were of his grandchildren,
this man resembles his son, my father but it is not him. The background
looks like a bridge but like the man the background doesn't look familiar
either.

This can be viewed at
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=18664

Thanks in advance for any ideas, replies can be sent to me or to viewmate.
