Ukraine SIG #Ukraine Rovno Uezd Region: Jewish Records Project (Tuchin, Rivne, Dubrovitsa, Korets, more) #ukraine

David R. Brill

Dear Genners:

I would like to share some exciting news for anyone who has roots in the
former Rovno uezd (district) of Volin Guberniya. Recently, the Ukraine SIG,
with the cooperation of the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish
People (CAHJP), acquired the digital images >from 5 rolls of microfilm
containing Russian-language revision lists (revizskie skazki) for 1811,
1816-28, 1850-52 and 1858-74 for towns in the Rovno uezd. The list of known
towns at this time includes: Tuchin, Horynhrad/Kripa, Rivne and Dubrovitsa.
There are also 1932 tax lists >from the town of Korets (Korzec) on the same
reels. This project will fund the translation of these 6500+ pages of
original documents and eventually make the data available to everyone via
the JewishGen Ukraine Database.

You can find out more about this new project by going to the Ukraine SIG
donation page:
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=22

and select "Rovno Uezd Region: Jewish Records Project"

or click on this link:
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/projectdesc/DB_Rovno%20Uezd.htm

This is a big project, and we need your help to make it work. Please
consider a donation. We will also be needing capable Russian- and
Polish-language translators, so if you are interested in participating,
please contact me.

Thanks so much for your JewishGen-erosity!

Best regards,

David R. Brill

A small searchable database for Transylvania #romania

Susanna Vendel <wendsu@...>

On a web news >from Romania I read about a project between University
Babes-Bolyai >from Cluj-Napoca Romania and Norwegian Historical Data
Center of University >from Tromso called "Historical Population
Database of Transylvania 1850-1914" released in April-May 2017. It
contains "twelve selected micro zones incorporate as a sample covering
almost 7% of the historical population of Transylvania, making
possible a long- and medium-term research".

The database is open and searchable (English and Romanian).

This "micro database" contains transcriptions >from civil registers
(births, marriages, deaths)for only a few places in Transylvania and I
don't know if it will be continued and enlarged. Anyway it is worth to
try it.

The Transylvania database (see below) has a nice feature: the original town=
name and the modern name of the town are both given. This enabled me to id=
entify an ancestral town which was very helpful.

Advice please - tracing ancestors in Bessarabia #general

Mabel Thedog <mabelthedog@...>

Dear all,

My great great grandfather, Harris HORNE, (Horen/Ehren were also used at
different times) was born in Bessarabia around 1861. He married Sarah FITCHMANN
(Fechman/Fichmonn also seen!) In Bessarabia in 1886 - there is a rumour they
were cousins but no proof...

I have managed to track them after they moved to England in 1903, but have been
unable to find any record of their life in Bessarabia - so I was wondering if
anyone could find anything/ suggest where/if I might find records about them?

I have more details if required.

Thank you,

Martha Hobby
