Seeking info on Janka SOCHACZEWSKA supposedly born in 1910, Lodz,

Pierre GOLDMAN was in his youth period close to French Communist Party,
then to South-America music, then he left France to South America and
revolutionary fighting. After coming back to France he was accused of
hold up and murder against a druggist and her employee. After arrest and
first trial, sentence of jail, where he wrote his first book "Memoires
obscures d'un Juif Polonais ne en France", a movement was organised for a
second trial by French artists (Simone Signoret). At the second trial acquittal
for murdering and a second book published, but some years later, he was
murdered by two unknown men belonging to an unknown movement "Honneur de la
Police".

I am sure that you could find more by searching on the web.
I not sure, but remember that his mother went back to Poland after WW2

Re: Is DNA Testing Worthwhile? #dna

Judy Simon

Personally, my family has had much success with DNA testing. It has
confirmed relationships between surviving members of branches of the
family that were decimated by the holocaust; we've been able to
confirm an oral history that one branch of our family was Sephardic
and fled to Eastern Europe during the Inquisition; we have helped a
gentleman who is a Y-DNA match to my brother discover who his
previously unknown biological grandfather was.

In some cases, even though the DNA test didn't provide an answer, it
suggested a new path of investigation. We do not know what my
husband's paternal grandfather's surname was in Odessa. My husband
had his Y-DNA tested, and he had several matches whose ancestors
came >from a region about 200 miles >from Odessa; so we have extended
our search to include this region.

Your DNA results remain in the Family Tree Database, so even if you
don't have any DNA matches right away, there is always the
possibility that someone will test in the future.

Rubinstein etc., search #ukraine

Nina Hathaway <ninaraha@...>

Dear Ukraine searchers:

I am Nina Rubinstein trying to find links. My father's parents came to the
USA by 1905 approximately >from the Kiev area of Ukraine, though I don't know
routes and only think they arrived via Ellis Island. I have heard that in
Kiev they were dairy farmers, but don't know how accurate that is. The names
I am searching: Bessie Veler my grandmother who married Sasha Rubinstein.
Bessie's sister was Batsheva, and the two sisters were the survivors of a
Cossack attack on their shtetl that resulted in their mother's death, though
they survived. My mother's side is >from Warsaw, with the names Joseph
Levine, a baker in Boston, and his wife was Sarah Freedman. My mother
Frances Levine married my dad Robert, (born in Providence, RI), in Boston.
My grandfather Sasha had a leather company at some point as I have found old
stationery saying Rubinstein leather, but he was a jeweller when I was a
child. My mother's sister Rose married Jack Forman, a kosher butcher in
Dorchester. My mother's younger brother Don Levine lives in California. My
mother is in a nursing home, nearly 94, with a poor memory. My grandmother
Bessie Veler's sister Batsheva married Max Green, and had a son Justin
Green, a dentist, who died within the last few years. My brother says the
name was probably not Green originally. When I was a child,I me an uncle of
my mother's who emigrated to Brazil, but I don't know if he was Levine or
not.

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Thanks, and please reply privately to Nina Rubinstein,

R' Zevulon Yehoshua NEUSTADTER's ancestry #rabbinic

This is a very interesting topic. Many families with different
family names are directly desendend >from R' Zevulon Yehoshua. This
is because we can trace the male lines back to this Rabbi before
surnames were forced on our people.

These family names are BROIDA, BRAUDE, NEIVDEL, and NEUSTADTER
families, and variants of these names.

I have been researching Zevulun Yehoshua for years, and have never
been able to connect him further back. If anyone has any ideas, I'd
also love to hear >from them.

Jeanine SOCHACZEWSKA, again #france

Avraham Y. K. <435.gavea@...>

I already posted at least one message looking for her whereabouts, but
I'm here again, for I still had no success at all. The most I could
get was knowing through a friend, who checked some french burial
online service, that she is deceased. I have 90% confidence she is
related to my family, and her children... would be my father's 2nd
cousins. My grand uncle, still alive, would be her 1st cousin, and no
one did ever know about each other.

I tried writing several letters, but this didn't work, the few people
who replied back are not connected (but I have realized now I wrote
only to SOCHACZEWSKIs, not SOCHACZEWSKAs). I have been working with
the well known Belgian immigration officer, Louis Philippe Arnhem, and
I keep wondering if only I could find someone like him in the French
archives. If only I could be able to see her immigration file, I could
then look for her descendants, based on the husband's lastname.

I will put here the info I have >from her, again, in case it rings any
bell on somebody: All the documents she signed on Yad Vashem look like this:

Jeanine Sochaczewska
Paris 20, rue Pixerecouri 42, 75020
All documents are signed >from 1986.

Can any of you tell me which is the closest Synagogue to this address?
Maybe I can find something with the current Rabbi. I know it's a
very long shot, but I have so much left to try...

I stress that any information is relevant. Please reply privately, so
