Need help creating "book" for gift using Family Tree Maker, please #general

BABYCAT3 <babycat3@...>

Sorry if this is off topic. Has anyone ever used FTM to create a book? I
would like to present this as a gift in honor of a 90th birthday but cannot
seem to create a book representing only her branch of my tree. I have even
turned to the FTM book, but am not finding the info I need. My book, no matter
what I do, keeps coming up with the individuals of my entire tree instead of
just her branch.

I need to have this ready by the 11th and am about to panic!!

Thank you and please respond privately,

1900 Federal Census Lookup Request #general

S. Harris <jewishgen@...>

I have a not-so-clear copy of the June 6, 1900 Federal Census for
Des Moines, Iowa (Polk County, Lee Township), Ward 5, SD 80, ED 90 Sheet
5A (I think). The entry is for Mose COHN (or COHEN), his wife, Frieda
and their six children at 212 East Second Street. (I almost couldn't
find this entry- it should have read Ezra Moses or E. M. COHEN, which was
actually his name.)

The 1900 census is now indexed for several states, including Iowa,
on the best-known (A as in arguably) commercial site, so it shouldn't be
too difficult to find with the "wrong" information as opposed to the
correct information!

Thanks,
Stacy Harris

Searching for GINDLER - Pittsburg, PA #general

Marc D. Manson <mdmcousa@...>

I am searching for any information on the descendants of William and Sarah
Gindler. Their children were Jack born about 1898; Frank, born about 1901;
Dora, born about 1903, and Bessie, born about 1905.

The family appears in the 1920 census in Pittsburg, PA, but nowhere else,
except one reference in the SSDI for a Jacob, who died in November, 1982 in
Pittsburg. I have ordered the SS-5 >from the Social Security Administration and
am waiting for it.

Thank you,

Biala not Klasno! #general

MiriFM@...

Dear Genners,
New research has brought new information. However, sometimes
discoveries do not resolve questions, but add new layers to the puzzle.
According to the "Maehrisch Ostrau 1910 Census", my father's
parents were born in villages by Biala.

Heinrich Friedmann- born March 20, 1864 in Kobiernice, by Biala.
Sophie Rosenblum- born August 20, 1856, in Czaniec, by Biala.

It is my understanding that before 1918, Biala was Austrian Silesia.
It was united with the Galician town Bielsko and renamed
Bielsko-Biala, Poland in 1951. However, although my father
documented their birthdates correctly, he wrote that his parents
were born in Klasno, by Wieliczka, about sixty miles >from Biala.

Of course, no documents existed that my father could use as
reference and for some reason he remembered Klasno. One of my
ancestors may have come >from Klasno or perhaps his parents
married or lived there before moving to Maehrisch Ostrau in 1888.
It is also possible the census is wrong and my father was
correct after all.

I would like to find the birth certificates. I believe there
is a State Archive in Bielsko-Biala, but I don't know if
they have these records. I would appreciate any information
which archives would be the best resource for my search.

Also, if anyone has any information about these towns, please
advise and reply privately.
Thanks!

WWI Alien Registration Cards #general

Herbert Lazerow

Alien registration did not begin in 1940. There was Alien
Registration in WWI. The officer in charge reported to Congress
just before the registration was re-authorized for WW2 that all
the cards >from WWI have been destroyed. I have no reason to
doubt this; I have never seen a WWI alien registration card. I
just note that other "destroyed" records have occasionally been
found in odd corners of archives here and there.
