Broadway Synagogue #usa

Phyllis Dahl <phy@...>

This is my first posting on this site - glad I found my way here.

According to my g-grandparents - Moss Samuel Phillips and Abagail Cowan
- marriage certificate, they were married on 6 March 1867 at the
Broadway Synagogue in New York City. Both are buried at Salem Fields.
Witnesses were A.L. Levy and J. A. Jackson. Their residence was at 145
W. 46th Street.
Question
I have heard that the Broadway Synagogue was at Heralds Square. Can
anyone tell me what the name of the Synagogue was as well as any other
information?

Many thanks.

Dear Genners:

I am looking for genealogy information about Mary DREYFUS LEVY, born
Dec. 13, 1828, in Brumath, France, married to Jacob LEVY, born 1821 in
Bouxwiler, France. They married Apr. 4, 1855 in New Orleans, LA. She
ided in 1920, Jacob in 1891. They had sons Leopold, born Feb. 25, 1856
in New Orleans; David, born Jan. 8, 1858 in New Orleans; and Raphael
born Mar. 11, 1860, in New Orleans.

Re: GUGENHEIM of New Orleans, I am seeking any information about Rosa
GUGENHEIM born Apr. 3, 1827, Nanette born Mar. 4, 1833, Sara born Feb.
29, 1840, and Paulina born Dec. 22, 1842, all in Breisach, Baden. All
immigrated to New Orleans during the 1850's.
Another family I am looking for is that of Emile BLOCH, born 1855 in
France, living in New Orleans, LA by 1870, died in Chicago, IL Aug. 17,
1929.

nother family line I am researching is Carlos UNNER of Portland, OR who
married Marguerite GUGENHEIM, born between 1822 nad 1830 in Breisach,
Baden. They probably married around 1860 in New Orleans, LA.

Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Is anyone familiar with the book, "Synagogues without
Jews"? It was written by Rivka Dorfman. Does this book
deal with the SLovakian Jewry during the Holocaust or
an earlier period?

While we will probably be adding a few pictures to the translation, the
text of 'Pinkus Krynki' is finished and posted!!! It's been a
challenge, and I want to thank JewishGen and Lance and especially you
for your keeping us going for the last four+ years.

Elina Smirnova <smirnova-elina@...>

There was also a surname ISRAELIT. For example rabbi Benjamin ISRAELIT
lived in Dzerzinsk, Minsk district, and was arrested in 1937. There were
other people with this surname

My great-grandparents came as fusgeyers in 1902, arriving at Ellis Island

"Brest Jewish Community" #belarus

Joy Weaver <joyweave@...>

There has been some discussion recently about records at the Minsk
Archive which contain BMD stats for the "Brest Jewish Community." in the
late1800- early1900s.
I would like to know if anyone on the list knows what the boundaries of
that "community" were? Was is only the city of Brest-Litovsk or was it
the whole Brest Uesd or something in between?

Transcribed passenger lists on line (repeat) #germany

Elizabeth Levy <ealevygen@...>

I came across a great sight for those whose ancestors came to the US by
ship:
http://www.immigrantships.net/

A group of volunteers has transcribed passenger lists >from over 5,000
passenger ships coming to the New World. It lists the passengers' names,
nearest relatives and even their belongings. Check it out!

And a little humor as you search... there's a page of genealogy humor at:

I loved "My ancestors must be in a witness protection program!"

visit to Germany, which will be included in the next issue of "Stammbaum -
