Yefim Kogan

Dear researchers,

Here is an update for the month of September 2015 for Bessarabia SIG.
See the details at the "What's New" section of our web site.

Jewish Cemeteries. Updates:
Ismail Jewish Cemetery was indexed and photographed. 688 records with 664
photos were sent to JOWBR. You can find maps, photos, link to 37 Unknown
graves photos in Ismail Cemetery Report available at Bessarabia SIG website
/ Jewish Cemetery section.
Thanks to Terry Lasky, Inna Vayner and Nathen Gabriel for the translation
work!

Chinisheutsi Cemetery was indexed and photographed. 3 records with 3 photos
were sent to JOWBR. See the Chinisheutsi Cemetery Report with details about
the cemetery and a link to 35 Unknown graves. Thanks to Jo Mintz Seligman,
Shlomo Todrus Woloch, David Rosen for helping in translations.

Bessarabian Databases. Updates:
Bessarabia Revision Lists. December 2015 Update. Three sets of records are
ready: Orgeev, Merchants, 1859, different towns, Merchants, 1859,
Gancheshty (Kotovsk), 1835. Also a number of sets are about to be ready:
for Ataki, 1848 (this is an addition to what was already uploaded in June
of 2015), Brichany, 1848, Teleneshty, 1859, Zguritsa, 1854 and Kishinev,
Merchants, 1859, and hope to be ready with more records on Kishinev!
The records will be sent to JewishGen at the end of December of 2015, and at
some point in 2016 be available at the Romanian/Bessarabian database.
If any of our members want to get a set records before that, that
is possible to do for a donation of $100 to Bessarabia SIG General fund. For
that you can get a whole list of town set of records and also if interested
a copy of a page of original Revision in Russian with your ancestors.

BRAUNER in Poratim/Goratin #galicia

Sheri Meisel

I am requesting help identifying the town of my BRAUNER family. All
U.S. documents identify Galicia but not a specific town, except the
following:

The 1910 ship manifest for my grandmother Sare Brauner and her sister
Necha identifies their birthplace as Poratim or Goratin (SS Ryndam
arrived NY Dec. 28, 1910). Necha's Social Security application indicates
she was born in 1893 in Rodehuf, Austria. The ship manifest for Sore's
brother Baruch said he had resided in Zloczow, Austria (SS Patricia
arrived NY Aug 30, 1906).

JewishGen and other searches suggest various possibilities for
Poratim/Goratin; I would very much appreciate your input deciding on
the most plausible town.

Looking for Joseph, Eugene or Jeno STERN, Hungary #general

Roberta Solit

I am assisting a Holocaust survivor who wants to learn more about her
father who is believed to have survived the camps.

As most Hungarians, he went by many names, Yosef (Hebrew), Eugen or
Eugene (English), Jeno (Hungarian) and Yoselle (Yiddish) STERN.

Yosef was born in Satmar and before the war he resided in Sighet
Marmatiei. He was married to Sarolta HALPERT.

On May 4, 1945 he was liberated by the 71st Infantry Division at the
Gunskirchen Concentration camp, a sub-camp of Mauthausen-Gusen, in
Austria.

He then went to the Wels DP camp. He was very ill and in 1946 he was
transferred to a hospital in Budapest.

We have no information about Yosef STERN after the time he was
hospitalized.

Looking for someone that might have known Yosef at any of the camps or
anywhere else, or some suggestions of where to continue our search.

Roberta Solit
Potomac, MD

MODERATOR: Contact information should be sent directly to Roberta;
suggestions for research techniques or resources may be shared
with the Group.

Father Desbois' work is not limited to Ukraine. He has explored sites
from Lithuania to Moldova and Romania, including some in Poland, Belarus

The 60 Minutes episode aired last Sunday began with a visit to a site in

Thank you Michael.

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland provides many resources and tips to help
researchers with their Polish family history. Many of them are listed
under the main heading of "Learn" on our website
http://www.jri-poland.org/ .

Specific to navigating the Polish State Archive websites that display
the digital images of most of the branch Archive, click then on
"Additional Resources and Help Tips" and you will find:

"JRI-Poland's Guide to Using the Polish National Digital Archives
(.PDF)" -- a guide to finding records on the NDA website at

Fink

"Viewing Original Documents Posted on the Polish State Archives Web Site
