Wolf COHEN #general

Sheldon Dan <sheldan1955@...>

I was looking in the "Bibliography of Jewish Genealogies and Family Histories"
and found something interesting. Under my last name (DAN) there was an entry
for COHEN, which would be our family genealogist's paternal ancestors. The
entry referred to a Wolf COHEN, born in 1860 in Lithuania and died in 1924
in San Francisco.

The entry referred to the Western Jewish History Center in Berkeley, CA, and
refers to "Wolf Cohen's Papers, 1924-1981." The papers included a family
genealogy and "an article about the Cohen and Dan family reunion."

Our genealogist, Walter Cohen of Austin, TX, did organize a series of family
reunions between 1980 and 2000, but they were for his mother's family, the
DAN/DEN/DUNN family of Lithuania. I am not sure where the reference to a
Cohen reunion came from, although it is possible that Walter also did some
research on the Cohen family and also organized a reunion on that side.

Can someone guide me to more information about Wolf Cohen and whether he and
Walter were related? I would appreciate any help in this matter.

Donations of Family Archives #general

Sheldon Dan <sheldan1955@...>

Our family genealogist, my father's cousin Walter Cohen, left a considerable
archive of the family research he did for our family. The DAN family (which
had a number of name variations, such as DEN and DUNN) originated in the area
of Taurage and Upynas, Lithuania. The descendants of Shraga Phievel DAN,
Solomon DEN, Zalman Eleazer SOLOMOVICH, Gutel HERSHOVITZ, Zalman Labe HERSCH,
Shraga Fivel DAN, Itchak Aizik DEN, Mordcha LEVITAN, Borach LEVITON, Hirsch
Mayer LEVITAN, Shlomo Zalman ZECHMAN, and Dvora Kuperman ROLNICK immigrated
to the United States, South Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany,
and Israel, and Walter organized a number of family reunions between 1980 and
2000.

I acquired the archive of the family >from Walter's nephews and have been
preserving the records. I have also revised the family history with
information that was not then available outside of the records. I think that
it is important to preserve both the family history and the records for
anyone who is interested in the history of the Dan/Den/Dunn family. I am
interested in repositories which have such genealogical records.

If anyone can direct me to the right organizations, that would be greatly
appreciated.

Personally, I’m very unenthusiastic about having to create another password to log into the groups.io platform to manage my subscription. I don’t like to log in via Facebook, Google, etc.

Is there any way to authenticate using our existing JewishGen account?

We have to see how it will go. ViewMate was a solution, in part,  when we could not do this. We have seen on the Facebook group that people being able to quickly post images is helpful, and this will allow that to happen.

You should be able to adjust when you login, see Rachel’s post. Please let me know if it does not work.
there is also an option for a daily summary of topics (this is different than receiving a daily digest).
thank you!

I thought when I initially signed in here that I had chosen to get one daily digest of messages. However, I am getting all the individual emails which are crowding my personal email account, especially during this period where so much start-up discussion is going on.

I cannot find the proper settings page to fix this (I find this platform to be not very intuitive).

Can someone let me know how to adjust this? Otherwise, it’s not really tenable for me

Re: Yizkor Book

Hi all,

It looks to me like a "topic" is simply a new thread of discussion created by a member, rather than a "Forum" where all messages about a particular subject would be housed. I am not sure if this application gives the admins the ability to create forums but if it does, then "Yizkor Books" should be a Forum (rather than a topic) where users can send messages related to that subject but not necessarily have to respond to the person that sent the original message.

In the present state, it looks to me like all one can do is respond to the individual post from the person that created a topic. So in this particular case, Binny posted a topic about Yizkor Books and all we can can do as users is to respond to it as if we were in a discussion We do not have the ability to create another topic within Binny's topic. If I want to create my own topic on Yizkor books it will become a new thread.

So, I would ask the moderators/admins to look at the structure of this application to see if "Forums" can be created where all threads of discussion about a particular subject would be housed.

Here is an example of a Discussion Group Application that allows the admins to create forums: https://www.jitbit.com/asp-net-forum/

Hopefully this makes sense!

Thos of you in the UK, do you know any military historian who might be
