Re: ניסיון לכתוב בעברית (Attempt to write in Hebrew)

This is interesting: On Windows 10, Edge does not give the correct right to left direction for this Hebrew text.
Google chrome does (for me - I haven't checked settings).

How to see messages in a topic before composing a reply #austria-czech

Odeda Zlotnick

Underneath the message in the digest, however you get it,  you have a link to "view/reply online"

If you click on the "View/Reply Online" you may have to login. But, having done that, you have the message and the reply form open, and under the reply form,  you have  "see all X messages in topic".  Click that and you see all of them - very
convenient.

Copying the header with the email should not cause problems in getting the Hebrew translated

Re: Question

I also would like a translate button if people post in multiple languages.  I tried to copy and paste the Hebrew, but could not get all the Hebrew selected without having the header selected also.

Re: Finding relatives #hungary

Ron Hoenig

I have lots of Bihari relatives in Australia. They  descend from  Marton Beckmann.(B.1899), who married my great aunt Rosalia Honig and changed his name to Bihari or Bihary (not sure when). Tibor Bihary was the paterfamilias (1914-1971). His descendants live mainly in Melbourne in Victoria.

Is that a help?

Hello

I wonder if anyone recognises people in this group photo taken at a well-known lake in modern day Slovakia? My father and sister (Ropschitz, Lvov) are recognisable to me but as it's such a great photo and so many faces are clear, I thought I would share it.

I have another photo taken in a cafe in the same region I believe which I will also attach for the same reason.
Kind regards, Yolanda, Somerset, England

Re: dual citizenship #austria-czech

Ron Hoenig

I would like to make an ironic aside note. One of the disadvantages of the move
by the Austrian government is that: should an Australian descendant of Austrian
holocaust survivors take up the offer, that person would be prevented >from
becoming a member of Australia's parliament. Australian politics has been
devastated by a section of the Australian constitution that decrees that no
person with dual citizenship - or even eligibility for such citizenship - may
stand as a candidate for election to such a high office. The current Treasurer
of the country, the descendant of a Hungarian Jewish Refugees is currently
fighting to prove that he is not a dual citizen because of a similar move by
the current authoritarian - and some would say - antisemitic Hungarian
government to restore similar citizenship to the descendants of victims of
the Hungarian holocaust. DespIte the fact that an increasingly large proportion
of Australia's population either has or is eligible for citizenship in two or more
countries, the nation's highest court has ruled that the clause in the constitution
which was. Legislated in the early 20th century, when the nation was proudly and
avowedly racist, has firmly ruled that its leading politicians must divest themselves
of such dual citizenship at profound financial cost. As a result, a growing proportion
of the country's population is ruled out of contesting the nation's highest office.

Whatever one's views of the generosity of the Austrian Government in making this
offer, anyone of my readers should consider the fact that it would mean certain
death to a elevated political career in Australia!!!

One advantage of possessing Austrian citizenship is that you have free
access to the whole of the European Union without any restrictions which
may be placed on non-citizens such as perhaps needing a visa to settle
there or purchase land.
It may however also involve duties, including liability to military
service.

Dear Sheldon,
Thank you for your message.
As we continue to modernize our platform, we are trying to ensure that everything meets contemporary security standards. We, therefore, needed to have a separate login for this platform. In the future, we plan hope to have one single sign-in page. For additional information, we have prepared a helpful Member Guide here: https://groups.jewishgen.org/g/main/wiki/The-New-JewishGen.org-Discussion-Group-Member-Guide
Wishing you the best of luck with your research, and thank you for being part of the JewishGen Family.

Re: Correction: Article on Dedication of the Memorial to the Yurburg, Lithuania Jewish Community #yizkorbooks

Randall Tenor

I wish more Lithuanian communities and the Lithuanian government would do this. I am fortunate that most of my family came over around 1900 and others were able to fight in the forest in WW II, though we lost some in the camps. Let's hope that Yuburg is not a one time event.

Thank you.
