Thank you, Peter Lande, for your frequent updates from the USHMM. I have a question regarding the last paragraph in your latest message about the material that cannot be publicly posted. Since not all of us can visit the museum in the near future, is it possible to know what organizations provided the restricted data? For people who are looking for information about lost relatives, perhaps there is a way to approach them directly and ask for look-ups or help of that sort.
Thanks again,

Re: Polish citizenship #poland

Stanley Diamond

While Polish residence may be necessary to obtain the legalized copies of records
necessary for the formal application, that is a final step in the process and research
into the survival and availability of records and eligibility for citizenship are by far the
most important initial steps to be taken.

Where a Polish address is needed, JRI-Poland is pleased to be able to provide that
service along with research of both our online and offline data for the source of vital
records or other sources that may be acceptable in place of vital records that may
not have survived.  And, as mentioned in my earlier post, we are also able to suggest
companies who provide the application service with reasonable costs.

Searching for Descendants of Karoline (Kranz) Roll or later Heine in Bucharest #romania

Ilana Grallert

Hi,
I have hit a wall in my search for descendants of Karoline Kranz who was born in Czernowitz on March 7, 1906. She married Jacob Roll in Czernowitz in 1927. Jacob died  in 1933 and she married Herbert Armin Heine in 1936. Karoline died in Czernowitz in 1987. She had a daughter Erica born in 1928 in Czernowitz who died in 1987 in Bucharest. I believe that there are still children of hers in Bucharest. Erica married  Armand Penchas. I do not speak Romanian and so I am having a hard time searching in Bucharest and in Czernowitz after it became part of Romania and today is Ukrainian.
I would be grateful for any lead.

Not always Ellis Island

My Messing family came in through Ellis Island, but I could never find my grandfather, Jacob.  I knew he came to the U.S.; I even had newspaper articles reporting his suicide in Central Park!

But by sheer accident, I found him coming in in Galveston,TX.

My message:  don't overlook the other ports of entry.

Re: Suggestion regarding Family Finder

I have my own website - and it will be around as long as I am, but I have changed hosts and the name.  As I look at TuviabenAvrahamAharonvSimaRivka I still don't have a complete URL, as I don't know whether it is .org,.com. .net and it is also long and complex with those capital letters - and likely to be misspelled.
Why not just add the possibility of a real link here, something that could be done once and would apply to all your entries.  Yes I should put an updated Gedcom on FTJP, but be aware that people still try to contact you for information- so this would not help them after you have passed away.  BTW my current site is https://sarahsgenies.com

Re: Thank you To Nu? What's Nu? A search tip and A Uruguay research request re GOLDSHMIDT

Hi,

We took a wonderful Jewish tour of Montevideo with Fanny Margolis earlier this year. Fanny is very well connected with the Jewish community and enabled us to enjoy an oneg at a Synagogue. I'm sure that she will be able to provide information to you. Her email address is info@...  and her website is  http://www.jewishtours.com.uy/site/.

I hope that this helps.  My paternal grandmother was also a Goldschmitt with relatives in Bakshty and Ivye. I've done the following DNA tests:  23andme, FTDNA, MyHeritage and Gedmatch. My sister Nadine did the Ancestry DNA test.

My mother told me and brothers about our great grandfather and his seblings were Jews who escaped from Spain during 1800s because of great persecution. Passage Libau, Latvia to Jaffa, Palestine

Roberta Lipitz

My grandmother Fanny (maiden name Shore) born Libau 1888-1890.  Looking for birth certificate and possibly travel papers to Jaffa.  Am not sure of dates of travel and arrival and all I have is ship's manifest when she, her father and younger sister, arrived to Ellis Island in 1903.  I know that this is asking for a lot but have hit the "brick wall."  I do know through IGRA that these were the Ottoman Empire period and travel documents were difficult to find.

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice.

Sincerely,

Zelig Hering (whom I never met as he perished in Auschwitz) featured in "A
Book of Memory of the Jewish Community of Pinczow, Poland". I understand

in the article. The article appears in pages 210-212 of the Book and is

Re: Seeking people connected to the Brodsky family “Sugar Kings of Ukraine” #ukraine

sharon@...

I also have stories about the Brodsky family.

My paternal Grandfather, Jacob Zamansky, and his family were master carpenters who worked for the Brodsky
sugar beet farms. My maternal Grandmother Schifra Dolinsky’s father was a bookkeeper for the family.
At one point in time it was told to me that her father Moishe Dolinsky also kept the books for the Brodsky synogogue in
either Smila or Kiyev.
I don’t know what happened to Moishe but his wife Dina and all but one daughter were able
to come to this country. Genia Dolinsky Krupnik supposedly died in the Shoach.

There were also many Brodsky family members who emigrated and settled in the Hudson Valley
of New York.
