New records added to LitvakSIG All-Lithuania database #lithuania

Russ Maurer

LitvakSIG is pleased to announce an update to the free, searchable,
All-Lithuania Database. The new records include the 1942 census of
ghettos in Golshany, Krevo, Oshmiany, Smorgon, Soly and Zhuprany, all
in the Oshmiany district but including some individuals originating
elsewhere (5145 lines). We also have city of Vilnius conscription
lists >from the period 1887-1916 (17,618 lines). There are revision
lists >from 1795 for Akmene and Uzventis in the Siauliai district, as
well as 1834 revision lists and their supplements through 1849 for
several towns in the Vilnius district - Bagaslaviskis, Ciobiskis,
Gelvonai, Musninkai, Paberze and Sirvintos (2258 lines).

All of these records are searchable at
https://www.litvaksig.org/search-ALD/. They will appear in the search
results under the "Revision List Database - part 2" category. Updates
in the marriage, tax & voter, and passport categories are also in the
works and will be the subject of a separate announcement when they are
available.

As always, LitvakSIG is grateful to its donors and translators,
without whom we could not make these records available. These records
were available exclusively to our donors for about the past 18 months.
To learn how to support LitvakSIG's work and gain priority access to
new translations, visit our website, https://www.litvaksig.org.

looking for relatives in Lvov - KOROSTISHEFSKY formerly ROPSCHITZ #ukraine #galicia #poland

YBentham

Hello friends
My latest search is for any relatives of my cousin YUSEFA KOROSTISHEVSKAYA who was born in Lvov, around the 1930s I think, jumped off a train bound for Auschwitz and survived to lead a full life.  She and I exchanged letters in 1997 for the last time and I heard nothing after. I have found a family tree with a few names on and think she died in Israel. The names are all in Russian which I can read. It seems her husband was called ARKADY and her children ANATOLY and MARINA but they are not on the family tree. Instead I am finding the names FELIX SHUMAX and ZHANIA SHUMAX. I have sent a message but not heard anything back. Our family name was ROPSCHITZ  (from Lvov 1860s). Any help will be most gratefully received.

Launch of Gesher Galicia's Przemysl Identification Project #galicia

Gesher Galicia SIG

Gesher Galicia is launching an extensive long-term project to
identify 573 Jewish record books of unknown origin housed in the
Przemysl State Archive in Poland. Involved are index books of vital
records (births, deaths, marriages), including a few index books of
unspecified type, as well as some sets of community records. While the
dates and most of the record types relating to each register are
known, there is no information about their geographic origin. Most of
the books, though, are presumed to be from towns in the former
Galicia. Identifying the town of origin of each book will undoubtedly
lead to interesting genealogical discoveries for Galician researchers.

These books are all subfiles of "File 69" - a set of unknown books -
of Fond 154 of the Przemysl State Archive. A list of these index books
can therefore be found in the "Inventories" section of the Gesher
Galicia website, within the section for "File 69" of Fond 154 of the
Przemysl archive, at:
https://www.geshergalicia.org/inventories/fond-154/ .

The project has been approved by the Polish State Archives, is being
managed by the project’s secretariat in Poland, and is being carried
out in cooperation with the Przemysl archive.

Gesher Galicia members now have an exclusive opportunity to
participate in the identification project, in this way advancing the
knowledge of the genealogical community. If you are not a member of
Gesher Galicia and wish to take part in the project, you are most
welcome to join, at: https://www.geshergalicia.org/membership/ .

New identifications of these presently unknown books will be announced
publicly, at regular intervals, and the information shared with the
Przemysl State Archive.

Further public information can be found on the Gesher Galicia website at:
https://www.geshergalicia.org/projects/przemysl-id/
and, for Gesher Galicia members only, in a dedicated section of the
Members Portal.

Searching ROSENGAUS

David Goldman

Hello, Jewishgenners. I am researching the family of my ancestor Leah Rosengaus Kabakov of Igumen/Cherven (my great-great-great grandmother). Her parents were Moshe and Marisya Rosengaus. Their other children were Shmuel Meir, Feiga, Fruma, Rachel and Getzel (all born in the 1810s-1820s).
Shmuel Meir was married to Elka and had at least two sons, Moshe and Berko. I am interested to know whether anyone has Rosengaus roots that might match my information.
Thanks,
David Goldman

new sets of Jewish records almost 200 years old #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Hello researchers,

When I find something impressing I always want to share with you. I was
getting new microfilms, thanks to our volunteers and one specifically caught
my attention. Remember a number of years ago we translated Revision lists
1824 >from District of Khotin. That was a really terrific finding with almost
full set of records >from towns and villages of that district.
Now we have another set of records >from 1824, but now >from south of
Bessarabia, >from district of Ismail. It is not huge number of records, and
all these records are in the same sections of microfilms with non Jewish
records.

Jews in most cases did not have Surnames in 1824! Also it was only 12 years
since Russian Empire (1812) got part of Moldova Principality, which became
Bessarabia Gubernia, and the Revisions were written in Russian, but the
district - in Russian - Uezd was still named as Tsinut (>from Turkish).

According to this Revisions, Jews lived in towns of Ismail and Reni (now
part of Odessa oblast, Ukraine).

In the same microfilm there are records >from same district of 1835, and at
this time Jews also lived in town of Tuchkov, but I found that according to
our Bessarabia Geographical dictionary it was a name of town Ismail at some
point.

I hope that somebody might be interested in translating these records for
us.

Please let me know if you have any questions, ideas.

All the best,
