Date of Birth input into databases

nardir4@...

I am new to this group and apologise if this has already been discussed.
My grandfather left Lithuania in the 1890's and changed his name when he got to England, and would never reveal his original name.
We have ,however,a date of birth for him.My question is-"Is there any way of accessing the Jewish Gen databases or any other database using the DOB as
the input?".Since there cannot be a great number of births amongst the Jewish community at the time on any particular date, we may possibly be able to
recognise and follow up details from other things we knew about him.Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

that's great, but is there any way to update the information on jewishgen? there is jowbr, and, i think, some older infofiles as well. if i were looking to visit these cemeteries, i'd be more likely to search the website than to look through the h-sig discussion group for updates.

The name Orzsike #hungary

Amit N

Dear all,

Thanks to Judy Petersen, I have found a death notice for one of my
great-great-great grandfathers. One of the names signed as mourners is
Orzsike (the O has Umlaut).
What name this could refer to? It is obviously a nickname. Could it be Erzsebet?

Thank you very much,
Amit Naor

Re: Przemysl, Galicia House Numbers

Steven Turner

I think the best way to try and do that is go to the cadastral maps in the Gesher Galicia map room and compare that to google maps today. Sometimes the results will be quite obvious and sometimes it will be difficult.

Best regards,
Steve

This might be useful for those searching people buried in Israel,

I was just drawn attention (was posted on the sephardi facebook page) to the following new searchable site:-

It should be warned that the site is in Hebrew only (as far as I can see).

Re: Translation of two death records in German

Corinna Woehrl

Hello Susan,

I would be willing to transcribe/translate the death-records:

1. but with my German worldwide-Ancestry-account I do not have access to the documents provided with the links and
2. maybe someone else started the translation before me and I wouldn’t know about it which would lead to duplication of efforts:

so: if you downloaded the documents and shared the link via ViewMate (it really is easy, just follow the instructions) every JewishGenner
- can see that the documents have been taken care of (or not)
- and may also provide you with corrections or annotations (wisdom of the crowd - more substantial information)
- and others with similar requests will be able to learn from the information provided.

Unless private information is included I would always prefer the „open“ Viewmate to private translations!
