Hungary SIG #Hungary The name Orzsike #hungary

Amit N

Dear all,

Thanks to Judy Petersen, I have found a death notice for one of my
great-great-great grandfathers. One of the names signed as mourners is
Orzsike (the O has Umlaut).
What name this could refer to? It is obviously a nickname. Could it be Erzsebet?

Thank you very much,
Amit Naor

Re: Przemysl, Galicia House Numbers

Steven Turner

I think the best way to try and do that is go to the cadastral maps in the Gesher Galicia map room and compare that to google maps today. Sometimes the results will be quite obvious and sometimes it will be difficult.

Best regards,
Steve

This might be useful for those searching people buried in Israel,

I was just drawn attention (was posted on the sephardi facebook page) to the following new searchable site:-

https://gravez.me/

It should be warned that the site is in Hebrew only (as far as I can see).

David Ziants

Ma'aleh Adumim, Israel

Re: Translation of two death records in German

Corinna Woehrl (nee Goslar)

Hello Susan,

I would be willing to transcribe/translate the death-records:

1. but with my German worldwide-Ancestry-account I do not have access to the documents provided with the links and
2. maybe someone else started the translation before me and I wouldn’t know about it which would lead to duplication of efforts:

so: if you downloaded the documents and shared the link via ViewMate (it really is easy, just follow the instructions) every JewishGenner
- can see that the documents have been taken care of (or not)
- and may also provide you with corrections or annotations (wisdom of the crowd - more substantial information)
- and others with similar requests will be able to learn from the information provided.

Unless private information is included I would always prefer the „open“ Viewmate to private translations!

APOTHEKER Family From Stanislawow

Abuwasta Abuwasta

I am researching for several years my wife's family APOTHEKER with a fair success. We knew that her ggrandfather  Saul Isak

APOTHEKER was born in 1831  and lived in  Nowy Sacz.  He had some relatives in Krakow,Drobomyl, Przemysl and in

villages in the vicinity. However, during the second half of the 19th century there  was only one APOTHEKER household in all

those places, in other words, their forefathers came from somewhere else. Yesterday I found out that Saul Isak was born in

Stanislawow in East Galicia. In Stanislawow I found the spelling APTEKER which returned many results also in Kolomiyya

and once also the right spelling APOTHEKER. I also have one APOTHEKER who lived in Bobrka(Bibrka) which is 86 km

from Stanislawow. Trying other spelling APTAJKER I found a PoT from Lazajsk. I believe they might be my wife's relatives.

If it rings a bell I would like to hear about it. East Galicia is Terra Nova for us.

Thanks

Re: Przemysl, Galicia House Numbers

Eva Lawrence

In Bonn I had the same difficulty, but found that there were city address books published every year which explained the system in the issues  for the period when the change took place, I was lucky in that the Bonn Stadtarchiv had published them online. You may have to contact Przemyst to find out whether such address books have been preserved.

Sochaczew is one of my ancestral homes. It is 39 miles west of Warsaw.

The Museum of Sochaczew Lane and Battle of Bzura River were doing
research when exploring the Royal Canal when they found a trove >from
World War II weapons and plaque belonging to Nazi Chief Administrator
Ludwig Fischer who later became Governor of the District of Warsaw.
The governor's Office was moved to Sochaczew after the Warsaw Uprising.
An amphitheater is being constructed in the area. The underground canal
was built in the 1800s.
