I sent my (somewhat) diplomatic advisement re USCIS's desire to make searches unaffordable, to my Texas leges, Cornyn and Cruz.

Politics aside, in the past they have both been helpful on issues that needed addressing, so I am ever hopeful they will do the right thing on this issue as well.

Fingers crossed, and will advise when I hear back.

Ancestry has a family tree for them. There is quite a lot of information. You might want to get a trial subscription, so you could print all the available documents. If not, let me know. I could copy and email to you. Maurice died 8 Jan 1990 is Orange, Orange, CA. Dora died Oct 1976 in Newhall, Los Angeles, CA. She was born, according to Maurice's naturalization document, in Starodub, Russia. My husband's grandparents were also born there.

Hello Trudy -

Inglewood to Huntington Beach, in the ‘40s, was a hotbed of WWII industrial support - ships, planes, secret stuff, and later, getting us to the moon, so maybe employment could be a trail you follow - they might have even worked for Howard Hughes!

Let us know how it goes.

jmhrlaw@...

I live in the U.S. and my mother and grandmother, both of whom are deceased, immigrated to the U.S. in 1939 and 1940 as  a result of the Nazi invasion of Austria. I am researching my family history on my grandmother’s side of the family. My grandmother was born in Borsice, the Czech Republic. I believe her sisters and some of their children died in the holocaust. I need help with the following:

1.     My husband, I and our adult children would like to visit the Czech Republic and need a guide who speaks English and Czech and is familiar with the area to travel with us to visit Borsice and possibly the small towns in the area to find graves or information about the family.

2.     Related to the visit, I may need some help doing research about the family in advance of the trip.

3.     I was notified some time ago that I inherited some land in the Borsice area. The correspondence is in Czech. I need a person knowledgeable about land transactions to research the status of the property and to advise on what I need to do about it.

Temple Sholom of Ontario (California)  has available a copy of the book Pinkas Krinki published in Israel in Hebrew and Yiddish in 1970.  There is text and photos. The binding is  in good condition but the book has some moisture damage.  Many libraries and museums have copies in their holocaust collections.

We acquired the book along with old prayer books from some one who was cleaning out an ancestor's home.

Our first choice would be to give it to a recognized public collection  but others interested may inquire,

We expect the recipient to pay shipping and  hope for a donation.

More on USCIS Fee Increases

Jan Meisels Allen

Jbonline said many of the records are available at National Archives.  This is WRONG!  USCIS has not transferred the records over to the National Archives . Please read the coalition website for  ACCURATE information https://www.recordsnotrevenue.com/issues/

“Why is USCIS still holding on to and charging fees for access to records that should already be at the National Archives (NARA), or which already exist at NARA but are withheld from the public due to restrictions placed by USCIS? Do USCIS and NARA have any plans to transfer these historical records and make them available at NARA?

Visa Files and Registry Files, both subject to the proposed $625 total fee, became eligible for transfer to NARA in April 2019. Where are they? Does USCIS plan to collect $625 apiece when these records should already be available to the public at NARA?

Alien Registration Forms, subject to the proposed $240 fee, exist on microfilm at NARA but remain unavailable because of a USCIS restriction. When will this be lifted?

A-Files of immigrants born more than 100 years ago should be at NARA, as per USCIS' own 2009 records retention schedule. Why must we still request A-files from USCIS for new fees of up to $625?”

Please don/t assume about what is and is not available at the National Archives.
