Seeking: Zoltan EGRI #austria-czech

michael miller <mllm39@...>

Does anyone have any information on the fate of Zoltan EGRI: born in
Eger, Hungary in 1894; student at Brno's German Technical School,
1920-1923; architect in Brno at least until 1936, when he designed the
Jewish Museum in Nikolsburg/Mikulov. I'm trying to figure out whether
or not he survived the Holocaust. Any information will be
appreciated.
Thank you,

SITE CITE - Jewish Soldiers who died in WWI #germany

Judith Berlowitz <judigenie@...>

Dear Genners,
I just happened upon this site, which lists Jewish
soldiers who died in WWI. Names are listed under each
alphabetically-listed region, and birth- and
death-dates are given. Areas of modern-day Poland
(Posen) are included. I searched the GerSig archives
and did not find a previous entry, so am submitting
this now. The site:

http://www.denkmalprojekt.org/Verlustlisten/rjf_wk1.htm

is in German only, and is evidently still under construction.

Posen ,Prussia BOF meeting at August NY 2006 Conference #germany

Barbara Siegel

Dear Reseachers,
Thanks to all who have responded to the previous request re Posen, Prussia
researchers. The response has been excellent, but I know that there are
still some who are not aware of the first post. This will be the final
call before the date of the New York Conference. So, if you are interested
and have not already sent in your information, please review the message
below and respond ASAP.

Attention: All those with research interests in the area of Posen, Prussia.

A Posen, Prussia BOF has been scheduled for the NY2006 Conference on
Wednesday, August 16 >from 9:30 A.M-10:45 A. M. The purpose of the meeting is
networking; sharing of research interests and resources; an opportunity to
share succeses, problems, etc.. We need to establish future goals,
communication vehicles and strategies, and develop an organizational
structure. This Posen, Prussia BOF group will NOT be limited to any
regional Posen section, but will include all of Posen, Prussia.

One of our first orders of business will be to construct a comprehensive
database of all those with interests in the area of Posen, Prussia. Past
efforts have had only limited success. In the interest of efficiency and
economy, I am suggesting the following:

I would like for everyone who has research interests in this geographical
area to send me the following information IN THE BODY OF THE MESSAGE before
the Conference date, if possible but better yet ASAP.

1. I am/am not planning to attend the NY2006 Conference.
2. Your name.
3. E-mail address.
4. Snail mail address.
5. Tel.no.
6. Surnames being searched.
7. Towns or Province in Posen, Prussia.

I have a volunteer to make an Excel spreadsheet of this data, which
hopefully will then be ready to disribute to the attendees at he BOF. In any
event, we will already have a head start and can add new additions as they
come in.

Please note, you do not have to be present at the NY2006 Conference to have
your data on this database. But it will be very helpful to get a ballpark
idea of how many will be at the BOF so we can prepare enough copies, and
arrange for enough seating space.

Any additional ideas/suggestions are welcome. We would like to make this
BOF as successful as possible. I am also looking for someone to volunteer
as recording secretary at the session--any offers?

Barbara Siegel bsiegel@netvision.net.il Jerusalem/Chicago.

Dear Genners,

Thank you so very much for all your responses to my query about Jewish/Hebrew
names. They clarified my questions and I can now give my cousin a definitive
answer that her father's name would not have been Pessie Genendel (they put this
on his grave marker)

Dear Genners,
In response to David Brener's post for a lookup NYC directories
& phonebooks of the 1930's:

You can obtain some great help, by using the site:
http://userdb.rootsweb.com/citydir/ - there is no charge for subscription
and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Then, post a message on: city-directories-l@rootsweb.com
and ask for the help you need - put the name of the city in cap's, at the
beginning of your subject line, and then outline the rest of the subject -
such as: "New York City - GOLDBERG - 1960's lookup request"

Make your subject heading clear & concise, to get more responses.
Put city, year/s you want & surname. Many people won't open messages
that don't state what people are looking for.
This is all run by private volunteers.

Budapest archives - accessing on-line #hungary

VICKI VIGIL <vvigil987@...>

Hi all

I was thrilled to read the July 20 post regarding the
Budapest Archives and the possibility of searching the
1900 city directory at
www.bparchiv.hu/cgi-bin/lakas/lakas.pl

But after going to the website and clicking on the UK
flag I could not find the city directory. I typed in
"city directory" with and without the year 1900; then
tried using the hungarian word - which was something
like "telefonoky" (sorry can't find my notes at the
moment), but still no luck.

Would someone kindly explain the finer details for me
as I'm anxious to try my surnames.

Many thanks
