Major new Zdunska Wola records extraction project launch #poland

Daniel Hanoch Wagner

Long-time Zdunska Wola and area researchers will be pleased to learn that
Jewish Records Indexing - Poland has undertaken a huge new "Phase 3"
project to fully extract all Zdunska Wola birth, marriage and death
records >from 1826 to 1914 and the marriage and death records >from
1915 to 1935. To carry out this major initiative, we also invested in
acquiring scans (digital images) of these records in the Lodz branch
of the Polish State Archives.

As Town Leader, it would be my pleasure to send you a full description
of the Phase 3 project and explain how you will be able to obtain
these extracts as well as digital images of your family records before
they go online.

I look forward to hearing >from you.

Re: Search CHATSKIS (CZACKIS, TSHATSKI, CHATSKI #ukraine

Ronald D. Doctor <rondoctor@...>

On 3 March, Pedro Czackis of Buenos Aires inquired about the Kremenets
birth record for his father, Owszija CZACKIS. He wrote:

"I am searching for the birth certificate and the emigration papers of my
father Owszija CZACKIS, born in September 1909 in Kremenets, who arrived to
Buenos Aires, Argentina in Nov 1928. Unfortunately, the Mormon records stop
at 1905, and I am told that in Kremenets I´ll find no administrative papers
>from the Polish times.

"I´ll appreciate any comments on the subject"

Pedro, I have good news for you. The Kremenets District Research Group
(KDRG) has your father's birth record ... read on.

Since the year 2000, the Kremenets Shtetl CO-OP, an activity of KDRG,
has been collecting, translating, and making publicly available, records
and documents relating to Jews >from towns in the Kremenets District of
Ukraine. A complete inventory and status report (KDRG Document
Acquisition and Status) is available on our JewishGen Kehilalinks
website. It is the first item on the website at:

http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/Kremenets/web-pages/research-projects.html

Download the Excel spreadsheet and use the hyperlinks at the top of the
"By Town" tab to jump to Kremenets birth records. You will see that we
have collected and translated the following Kremenets birth records:

1870-1886, 1888-1906, 1908-1915, 1917-1919, 1922, 1924-1925, 1929-1932

We obtained the 1870-1906 birth records >from the Mormon Family History
Library. The Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People (at
Hebrew University in Jerusalem) provided us with the 1908-1932 birth
records. We also have marriage, divorce and death record translations
covering similar periods of time. A searchable and downloadable name and
town index to all of these translations (We call it a "Concordance of
Personal Names and Town Names) is available on our website at:

http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/Kremenets/web-pages/master-surnames.html

If you do Hebrew surname "sounds like" searches for the surname
Tshatskis and for Chatskis you will find 1,073 entries for your surname
and its many spelling variations. They are >from towns throughout the
Kremenets district. Among the records in the "results set" is a birth
record for your father:

Newborn: Ovshiye/Ovshiya Tsatski/Chatskij, born 27 September 1909
(Julian calendar), 10 October 1909 (Gregorian calendar) in Kremenets
Father: Yisrael Yitschak/Srul Itsek, son of Getse/Getsel, townsman,
registered in Oleksinets
Mother: Pesye/Pesya, daughter or Eliyahu/El Razenberg/Rozenberg,
townsman registered in Vishnevets

Among the other records, you will find an 1858 Oleksinets revision list
(census) for Ovshie/Ovshiya, son of Khaskel Sender, son of Gershon
Tshatski/Czatzki. Ovshie was age 3. Khaskel Sender was age 45 and
Khaskel Sender's wife Zlata was age 30 in 1858. This record implies your
ancestor Gershon was born sometime before 1795.

So, despite your impression that records are not available, we have
translated and indexed more than 1000 records for Chatski (and its
spelling variations) and have been able to take your family back to
about 1795. In addition, our Concordance has more than 1,400 records for
Rozenberg and its spelling variations. These should be useful for
tracing the family lines for your grandmother Pesye Rozenberg.

If the work of our Kremenets group is useful to you, we hope you will
donate to the Kremenets fundraising project on JewishGen. You can donate at:

FW: Briceni Jewish Cemetery #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Hi everybody,

I found that some people who donated $100 for Briceni Cemetery told me that,
and I emailed them the table with all records, but also there are members
who donated, but they did not tell me that specific... and even when I get
a report of all donations, it does not tell me that your donation to
Bessarabia-Moldova Cemetery project is for Briceni cemetery... Please let
me know if you donated for that cemetery, and I will email you right away
the whole table, and if you find any of your relatives, I also going to send
you the photos for these tombstone(s).

Of course this offer is standing now, and if you donate to
Bessarabia-Moldova Cemetery project $100+, and let me know that it is for
Briceni Cemetery, I will send you the table.

Let's explain a bit, why we are doing this...
We are paying to photographer and for some of his travel needs (gas for the
car and hotel). He is driving >from Kaushany in the south of Moldova where
he lives, and he needs some place to sleep. On some of his trips to the
cemeteries he sleeps in his car, because there are no hotels around.... and
for those nights he is not charging us. To complete Briceni he had to go
there for 2 full week trips, and the third trip he shared with photographing
Lipkani cemetery. The Briceni Cemetery has a lot of researchers, and we
collected enough money, thanks to all of you, to pay photographer... but
for many many other small and large towns we do not have that support.
Should we not index and photograph such cemeteries? With your $100+
donations you are getting some help in your personal research >from us and
we can continue our work on many other cemeteries. The goal is to index and
photograph ALL 73 cemeteries in Bessarabia and Moldova.

Thanks again for your donations and support,

All the best,

and I emailed them the table with all records, but also there are members
who donated, but they did not tell me that specific... and even when I get
a report of all donations, it does not tell me that your donation to
Bessarabia-Moldova Cemetery project is for Briceni cemetery... Please let
me know if you donated for that cemetery, and I will email you right away
the whole table, and if you find any of your relatives, I also going to send
you the photos for these tombstone(s).

All the best,
Yefim Kogan

Weekly Feature: Yizkor Book Spotlight #belarus

Groll, Avraham

Dear Friends,

Beginning this Friday, we will resume posting a brief spotlight
from a Yizkor Book that JewishGen has translated. As many of you
know, the Yizkor books contain vivid accounts of topics ranging
from communal daily life, to the struggles faced during the darkest
days of the Holocaust. If you are not familiar with the JewishGen
Yizkor Book Project, please click here:
http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/faq.html

The spotlight will be posted weekly on Friday mornings, at 7:00 am
(EST), on our facebook page. You do not need to be a member of
facebook to view this page. The url is: www.facebook.com/JewishGen.org

I would like to thank Mr. Bruce Drake (Silver Spring, MD), for
volunteering his time to do this each week. Mr. Drake has been involved
with JewishGen since 2006. He is currently coordinating the translation
of the Kovel, Poland Yizkor Book (more details here:
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/projectdesc/yb_kovel.html)
while also overseeing the Voynilov, Ukraine KehilaLinks site
(http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/voynilov/voynilov.html).

We hope that these weekly spotlights will provide a greater
understanding about the lives our ancestors led, and grant a more
profound appreciation for the heritage we share as part of the
broader global Jewish community.

If anyone would like to reach Mr. Drake directly, with comments or
suggestions for future spotlights, please email him at:
bdrake100@gmail.com.

Wishing you all the best of luck with your research.
