David Feldman <david.feldman@...>

The driving force behind last year's redesign of our website was Nancy
Holden and our webmaster Alan Raskin. Nancy was a volunteer >from the early
days of the SIG and has made many contributions to the SIG, the latest being
the website update and managing the help desk. This past week she indicated
that she wants to scale back and stop managing the help desk but will
continue to teach two JewishGen education classes for Belarus SIG; one is an
Introduction to the Belarus SIG website the other is Search for your
ancestors in Belarus. If anyone is interested in running the help desk
please contact Sharon Fingold, sfingold@....

Through her and Alan's work we have a much more user-friendly website that
integrates all the old information and provides a lot of needed new content
in a much more interactive and easy to use site. Thanks to Nancy and Alan,
we can be proud of our website.

We want to personally thank Nancy for all the work she has done in
designing, implementing and maintaining our website as well as all the work
she has done in the past. In addition, the whole Belarus SIG owes her a
debt of gratitude for all the work she has done and continues to do for the
SIG.

Nancy, thank you very much.

Re: Translation help -- Frankfurt death certificate 1967 #germany

Deborah Blinder

I've received a reply to my question about the meaning of "Im
Pruefling 21-25" on my great-uncle's death certificate: It's the
address of the hospital where he died. The hospital is named lower on
the death certificate, and I just found it on Google Maps; it's still
standing.

Thanks, and shana tova!

Deborah Blankenberg <dtblankenberg@...> asked:
What does "Im Pruefling 21-25" mean? All I can come up with is "in the
examinee 21-25," which makes no sense to me. ============>

" Im Pruefling" is the name of a still existing street in Frankfurt.
Number 21 - 25 is the Bethanien-Krankenhaus (hospital)

JGSCT October 2017 Program #general

gkreynolds

Please join the Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut on Sunday,
October 15 at 1:30 pm at Temple Sinai in Newington as Ron Arons
presents "Sex, Lies, and Videotape." This case study demonstrates what
to do when the research target lies on virtually every document on
which he's listed. Individual-focused research at its best.

By focusing on one individual at a time, a researcher can have a very
different experience than simply collecting names, dates, and places
to expand and fill out a family tree. By doing so, one can go beyond
the who, when, and where. One can explore the more interesting and
powerful questions, WHY? and HOW? Individual-focused genealogy
provides additional insights not into ancestors' lives but our own
lives as well.

The truly unexpected benefits of this approach is that it broke down
brick walls, allowing the speaker to push back his family tree another
four generations. (Truly remarkable.) It also exposed the speaker to
all sorts of records he might not have explored otherwise.

This program is free and open to the public. For additional
information, visit www.jgsct.org.

Ron Arons is an engineer and former marketing professional at
high-tech companies who now works full time as a genealogist. He
wrote the acclaimed book The Jews of Sing Sing.
