assistance >from their instructors; we also feature Mark Heckman's
annual KehilaLinks class.

Nufus Books of the Ottomans #sephardic

Michael Waas

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with the nufus books (the books of
souls) of the Ottomans for Ottoman Palestine? I just came across them
from the Israeli State Archive. The information about them seems
extremely tantalizing.

I am primarily interested in them for my professional work in Israel
and secondarily for information about my family's relatives who lived
in the Yishuv during this period in Jerusalem. In particular, one of
my ancestors according to what has been found, lived in Jerusalem for
a period of 5 years >from 1879 to 1884 where he worked as an emissary
of the Beit El Yeshiva after taking leave of his position of Chief
Rabbi of Larissa. I would assume that I might find information about
him there if it exists.

Many thanks!

Best Regards,

Michael Waas

Looking for my uncle Ouri/Uri/Yuri KELNER #general

anafa-e@...

Dear Genners

I am looking for my maternal uncle. Ouri /Uri/Yuri KELNER born around
1930-1932 in Oushchilug/Uscilug then Poland now Ukraine (Vohlin/ Vohlyn)

He was an orphan, his parents, Rivka and Natan KELNER, died before WW2.
He has 3 sisters who live in Israel with families. The names of his sisters:
Tzila /Zila, b. 1922, Vitla b.1926, Dina 1928/9.

Ouri and his sisters were raised in different orphanages. His sisters in
Kovel and Oushchilug and he was raised in Horodishche/Horodiszce.

The last time he was seen was about 1940/41 in the 0rphanage in
Horodishche/Horodiszce. Since the end of WW2, my mother and my aunts
looked for him but with no results as for his fortune.
What happened to him? Could he survived and lives somewhere?
Did someone take care of him? (He was about 8-9 years old when the Germans
entered Russia.

I started to look for him with the help of a friend who speaks Russian and
knows how and where to look in Ukraine, also with no results so far.

I am still waiting for answers >from the archives in Luck, Moscow, Kiev,
Kovel, Rovno/Rivnee, Zitomir, and Red Cross Moscow.

What more can I do? How shall I continue?

Thank you for any help,

Yefim Kogan

Dear Bessarabian researchers,

You may have seen the posting about the next conference in Salt Lake City.
The website www.iajgs2014.org is already functioning.

I have received already messages >from our members who are planning to
present at the conference. If anyone else wants to give a lecture, a
seminar, or a computer workshop to help our fellow researchers, please let
me know. It would be beneficial to coordinate our efforts to have as many
sessions as we can.

We also want to invite a researcher >from Moldova to participate at the
conference, and for that I want to ask you to contribute money to
"Bessarabia SIG Speakers Bureau" among JewishGen-erosity - Bessarabia SIG
Projects. To have a researcher and archivist >from Moldova at our conference
will help us to connect to the region we are researching. It will bring new
projects, new data collections for ALL our members (not only to those who
are planning to participate at the conference in Salt Lake). If you have
any questions of how to donate, please email me.
