Revision Lists - great news #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Dear researchers,

I am back talking about Revision Lists - numerous records we have already translated (more
than 170,000 Revision records we have in our database). We started working on these records
in 2009, that was before our SIG was formed...

In any case I counted more than 50! Translators who helped us with these records. We have
worked on more than 40 microfilms! Each microfilm is about 1000 images!! Most of them
came >from LDS, and several were copied by our members!

More than 30 microfilms were completed and there are 10 still in progress, some of them are
going to be completed soon... and you know everything which are in these microfilms, completed
or in progress >from https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Romania/BessarabiaRevisionLists.htm.

Last week I received 3 MORE microfilms and want to let you know what is in them, because it is
very important. Most of our microfilms are >from Revisions of 1848, 1854, 1859, some are >from
1824, 1835 and very few were >from 1875.

In these 3 microfilms we got records from
1859 for Soroki, Rashkov, Ataki (we did not have before)
1875 for Faleshty, Khotin, Kishinev (several small groups), Soroki uezd
1895 >from All Russia Census!

I was trying to find records >from 1895 All Russian Census for Bessarabia for more than 10 years,
and yesterday I found First Bessarabian Jewish Records >from 1895! It is >from town of Soroki. We
got so far only 2 pages of Jewish records, but that is very significant that they exist! According
to many professional researchers 1895 records were destroyed and only statistics are available. I
could not believe that and continued to look for them. What is important in 1895 records, the
information is much broader comparing to other Revisions. For example, if a person was not born
in the place he lives, it will tell exactly where the person was born! Also if a person was registered
in one town, but lived in another town, it will be all in the record. It also tells if a person is literate
or not, and if he/she studied in a school, etc.

I hope that we are going to find more of 1895 Bessarabian records!

LAPIDUS family #general

I am looking for help to break through a brick wall. My ggf Yankel LAPIDUS
born in 1859 immigrated to the US in 1885 >from Lebedev, Belarus. He returned
to Belarus by 1887 to a town 3.5 miles distant >from Lebedev, named Markovo.
I am unable to find his parents, his siblings, or his children who remained
in Belarus. Since he was not on the 1858 revision list for Lebedev, I
suspect he was not born there. It is possible he was born in Radoshkovich,
Krasnoe, Kurentz in the Vilejka district of Vilnius or in the Grodno town of
Volkovysk . Anyone with knowledge of the LAPIDUS families in these areas,
please contact me.

SOCHACZEWSKIs from Lodz #general

Avraham Y. Kahana

I have been searching for traces of the following SOCHACZEWSKI family, apparently
from Lodz, for nearly a decade, making a single breakthrough through a Yad Vashem
testimonial page match.

The data I have on my great grandmother, Rivka Miriam Sochaczweski z'l family is:

Parents: Aharon Yechezkel (Aron Chaskel) and Leah nee SKROBEK

Children:
Henoch
Rivka Miriam (my great grandmother)
Avraham Pessach (Abram Pejsach)
Hendel
Sara Beila (Sura Bajla)
Sender

Years ago I came across Henoch's family traces in Yad Vashem, as
having been murdered in the Holocaust (not all of them, it seems).

Sender married Beila LANGNAS, daughter of Lejb and Sara Miriam (maiden
name something like FROTMANSDORF).

Minutes ago I have just found, at jewishgen, that Henoch's Lodz Ghetto
address was "Wald 3 14". Making a new search with "Data Field" set to "Wald 3 14",
returns a Nicha SOCHACZEWSKI, born on 4-Apr-1876. Statistically, is it not true
that almost always individuals with the same family name, living under the very
same address in the ghetto, were related ? In other words, this Nicha Sochaczewski
must be a new lead, but unfortunately a preliminary search did not reveal any
concrete results yet.

If you happen to have anything to add on any of these, please contact me.
Thanks in advance,

Avraham Y. Kahana

Re: Hunt for a COHEN UK birth registration #general

Daniel Gleek

Thank you to all those who responded to my appeal for help!

I was trying to find GRO birth details for Maximo COHEN b1907. I knew the family
was in Manchester, but was having no luck.

Well, the details were found, under the name Mandel COHEN, but the main 'problem'
was where I was looking. It seems it took place in Chorlton, which is close to
Manchester and Salford, but I hadn't heard of this town and so didn't know this.

It is therefore due to the local knowledge of readers in north England
that we finally got there, after a 10/15 year search!

The certificate has been ordered and, on arrival, will be sent to
Maximo's descendants/family, who are in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Regards,
Daniel Gleek in London

Hi all,
it's been a while since I have been trying to locate any relative of

Hello every one

My grand father was David Salata and his father was Abraham Salata. It is possible
that this Abraham Zelik Salata who I found in JRI Poland akt 1056 is his father.
But we need to confirm that! We have heard that "our" Abraham Salata came >from
Turkey and this record shows that "this" Abraham Salata and his parents are >from
Poland. If any one can help me getting to any information that may clarify this for
us.
Possibly information on children or wife of Abraham Zelik Salata 1862-1907 (akt

We will be regretful!!

Thank you!
