Just a warning that much of the information on findagrave.com is
provided by users, and does not constitute a grave or tombstone
existing at the listed cemetery. So it's best to verify any information
from this site with the cemetery. And to verify the source of any
information not on the tombstone with the submitting user.

Shearith Israel is the oldest congregation in Manhattan, and I am sure
that they have records that go all the way back. They are currently
located at 8 W 70th St, New York, NY 10023-4605. Ther phone number is
(212) 873-0300. Good luck

Is anyone familiar with Rabbi Wormser or the synagogue and what became of it?
Ultimately, I'm interested in whether any records (of marriages, etc.) survive.

Dear All

In the 1901 census Marks and Betsy/Bessy MELNICK were
living in Mile End with their children; -
Marks 38 Betsy 30 Fanny (Dora?) 9 Rosie 8
Sarah 5 Iky (Isaac) 3 Annie 2 weeks.
They may have had two more children, Joseph born 1910 and
Jack born 1911.

Betsy may have passed away in 1914 as Bertha.
Later that year, a Marks MELNICK married Sarah TISHMAN/TISSMAN so
this may well have been a second marriage for both of them or
at least for Marks.
They had a daughter called Eva born Bethnal Green, 1916.
I've not found a marriage for Eva, only for an Eva Dora who was
born in 1910/12 and her parents were Jacob MELNICK and Matilda
POSENER/POSNER.
Perhaps Jacob was a relation of Marks who passed away in 1930 aged 64.

Please contact me on a1steve@bigpond.com with any connection.
Many thanks

Zionist figure Yossef VITKIN #lithuania

Shalom,
I'm looking for information about the Zionist figure Yossef WITKIN/VITKIN.
I know he was born in Belarus in 1876, but would like to know where exactly.
Besides, if anyone happens to know his father's given name or any other data
about his early years (parents, siblings) I would be very grateful.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Nathalie Ried (France)

In the Netherlands WWII started 10 May 1940

"Escaping" Germany was just trying to get entry into neutral Netherlands.

Ususlly there was a local refugee committy in bigger Dutch border towns, nad
if they knew they tried to be at the frontier, bur also many successful
refugees had family overhere.

Secondly, how was it possible to travel >from Holland to Britain in
early 1940?
By boat.

I do not know much about entry regulations into the UK for people >from
Germany.

They were considered "Enemy Alien" so had to be aproved by MI5.

Thirdly, I am seeking information regarding the issue of 'Domestic
Servants' visas/permits allowing entry in Britain?
Same.
I would be surprized if thia applied for Germans after sep 1939.

your results with major databases, how to deal with your matches.
Confusing scientific jargon will be demystified and explained in
simple terms.
