"Resources for Jewish Genealogy in Chicagoland—What's New" will be family
historian Mike Karsen's presentation topic at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18,
2018, at the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois meeting at Temple
Beth-El, 3610 Dundee Road, Northbrook, Ill.

Registration, networking, and the JGSI genealogy help desk and research
library will open at 12:30 p.m. For more information, see
https://jgsi.org/event-3056366 or phone 312-666-0100.

Mike Karsen will deliver his annual update covering various resources
available to discover your Jewish roots in Chicagoland. He will include a
wide range of records and research resources, including cemeteries, death

city directories. How to locate your ancestor's naturalization records,
which are essential for any genealogical researcher, will also be covered

Chicago roots. Case studies will be utilized to demonstrate the research
process.

Professional Genealogists and the Genealogical Speakers Guild, and is a
past president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois. He has
presented over 300 talks on genealogy topics locally, nationally, and
internationally, including for the Newberry Library and the Spertus

The post war art of Fernand VAN HOREN #france

Schmitz_Elisabeth@...

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am researching the post-war art of the Belgian artist Fernand VAN HOREN.
He was also known under the pen name "Horn" and was a cartoonist after the war.
He died in 2005.

On the JewishGen Website you can find a series of pictures he drew right after the war
They are mainly about the Flossenburg Concentration Camp where he was imprisoned.
There is also a testimony, titled "How a drawing saved my life"
Can anyone help me out with some information about his personal life and his
post war artwork about Flossenburg?

Sincerely,

Elisabeth SCHMITZ,
Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

Have you ever seen this photo, which was very likely taken before the marriage of this young couple.

Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Uploading autosomal results #dna

My adult daughter tested with 23andMe; my wife tested with Family Tree
DNA. Since my daughter tested just a few months ago her are results were
rejected by Family Tree DNA as being >from too recent a version (V5 chip)
and so incompatible.

Any advice as to what we can do?

-Michael Kaplan

Dear Tom,

you are actually in the wrong place, the proof is that that in the
AUSTRIAN "Dokumentationsarchiv des oesterreichischen Widerstands"
(daow.at), you can find a very detailed biography of Otto Heller (I
don't know whether you have all the details?):

"geb. 14. 12. 1897 in Brünn

Schriftsteller. Verheiratet, 1 Tochter.

SDAP. KPČ. KPÖ. Studium der Rechtswissenschaft in Wien und Prag.
1921-1923 Chefredakteur der kommunistischen Tageszeitung "Vorwärts" in
Reichenberg/Liberec. Nach der Ausweisung aus der ÄŒSR 1926-1928
Journalist in Berlin. 1929-1933 Reisen durch die Sowjetunion. 1933
Flucht in die Schweiz, Februar 1934 Wien, 1935-1936 Redakteur der
"Deutschen Zentral-Zeitung" in Moskau. Im Sommer 1936 über Paris nach
Spanien. Sprecher bei Radio Madrid. 1938 nach Frankreich, 1939
inhaftiert. 3. 11. 1941 - 11. 2. 1942 Le Vernet. Ab 1942 als Raymond
Brunet im französischen Widerstand. Als Dolmetscher in eine Dienststelle
der Deutschen Wehrmacht in Lille eingeschleust. Am 23. 12. 1943
verhaftet. Am 31. 7. 1944 mit Convoi 44 von Drancy nach Auschwitz. Ab
25. 1. 1945 Mauthausen und Ebensee.

Gestorben am 26. 3. 1945 in Ebensee."

Since he was a Sudeten German, you should post on the AustroCzech list,

I wish you success
