Luach Dates #general

Does anyone have access to a perpetual book of calendar dates?

I am seeking the comparable Jewish date for the first Sunday in September
1941 to determine the yahrzeit date for the entire family of my aunt &
uncle and four cousins who were murdered with all the Jews >from Alytus, Lithuania.

Howard V. Epstein
hepstein@mindspring.com

MODERATOR NOTE: The JOS Calendar Converter can convert a civil (Gregorian
calendar) date into the equivalent date on the Hebrew calendar, and vice
versa. It can also display Yahrzeit dates for consecutive years. It can be
accessed at: http://www.jewishgen.org/jos/josdates.htm

About upgrading to the AOL 6.0 ver.:
------------------------------------

1.
You are advised to consider carefully before getting the AOL upgrade.
Some have reported that it has negative effect on their computers.
Furthermore, there is no provision to uninstall it and many have found
that it is not nearly as computer friendly as previous versions.

2.
From: Chuck Weinstein
---------------------
Apparently, the newest version of AOL's software has an E-mail program
that sends messages only in multi-part MIME format. This format is
incompatible with the software this listserve uses, and messages sent to
any of JewishGen's news groups or SIGs will be unreadable to those who
try to read them. Messages received in this format will be rejected by
JewishGen moderators. PLEASE, if you are considering upgrading to the
latest version of AOL software, hold off until we can figure a work
around. I can assure you we are looking at it carefully. Thanks.

3.
And >from Carol Skydell:
-----------------------
Thanks to the persistence of JoAnne Vanett, we have an answer >from AOL
regarding version 6. There is NO option to select plain text in ver 6

JewishGen is seeking the advice of a programmer on whether it is possible
for us to have a special script written to strip out the mime in any
message coming in with it.

The moderation team for the discussion group is also going to experiment
with cleaning up messages in mime and stripping out the mime commands in
the header.

Will keep you posted.

I am looking for the family of Moses SCHWAB who left Bavaria and settled in
Cincinnati, Ohio. Moses was married to Rosa nee JONES and had 3 daughters.
Essie, born in 1881, Gertrude born in 1882 and Florence, born in 1885. I
believe that Florence may have married a Michael H. PLAUT and had 2
daughters, Jeannette, born in 1910 and Rose born in 1912 in Cincinnati. Can
anyone help me with information about this family?

Many thanks,

New computer data base for records from Rodeph Shalom in #usa

Janet Akaha <Akaha@...>

I have found a data base that I would like to see added to Jewishgen (or
elsewhere)
and wondered how to go about seeing it happen.

Several years ago I went through a microfilm which included circumcision
records for Rodeph Shalom Congregation in Philadelphia. These records
begin in 1848 and end around 1864. At the time I xeroxed about 10 pages
(including the entire index) and I also have entered some of the
information on my computer.

I have information >from the actual records the following surnames (about
100 fathers representing about 200 sons , however no translation of the
Hebrew):
ADLER BACHARACH BAMBERGER CAHN COHEN COHN
DREIFUSS EINSTEIN FLEISHER FRANK GANS GOLDSMITH
HISTER KAHN LEHMAN MAYER OPPENHEIMER SCHEUER
SIMON SONDHEIM STERN THALHEIMER WEICHSELBAUM

I have recently been in contact with the Hebrew Jewish Archives in
Cincinnati. I have requested that the approximately 200 pages of records and an additional 20 pages of their early marriage records be xeroxed and sent to me. When they arrive, I would like to get ALL of the information into a data base. However, these records do include Hebrew which I can not read.

Please contact me if you would be willing to help me translate the
Hebrew or help with any other work on this project. Each page probably has only around 8 records and several people >from Gersig have offered to lend their support.
