Dear JewishGen Community,

With tremendous pain and sadness, I regret to inform you that Phyllis Kramer, our beloved Director of Education, has passed away.

Not many were aware of this, but Phyllis was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive illness shortly before the Cleveland conference. Phyllis shared the news with me during the conference, but asked that I not publicize it.

Phyllis did a lot of work, with Nancy Holden, over the past month to perpetuate our educational offerings, and more information will be shared in the coming days.

But for now, we join together in great sadness and mourning for someone who dedicated so much of herself to the broader Jewish genealogical community.

I last spoke to Phyllis a few days ago, and last saw her a couple of weeks ago. She was an extremely loyal friend, mentor and role model to me personally, and I know that she will be deeply, deeply missed by all of us.

More information will be shared, including what we can do to honor Phyllis’ memory, in the days ahead.

With tears.
Avrami

Seeking ancestral birth certificate to obtain German citizenship #germany

Judith Berlowitz <jberlowitz331@...>

Dear SIGgers,

My distant relative (British) is currently in Berlin, studying for the
rabbinate. He is hoping to obtain German citizenship by proving that his
great-grandfather, Max PHILIPPSBORN (1880-1940), obtained German
citizenship for his son, William/Wilhelm/Willy PHILIPPSBORN (1910-1992),
son of Max's first wife, Recha FEIBEL (geb. DEUTSCHKRON). My
relative needs birth information for Willy. Both Max and Willy were
born in Bentschen, Posen, now Zbaszyn, Poland. (My relative's
grandfather, the son of Max and his second wife, Adelheid REISSNER, was
born in Seelow, Germany.)

Any leads to finding related documents will be appreciated.

An unusual request, but, for a local exhibition, I am looking for a photo

Comprehensive family story #general

THOMAS WEISS <tfweiss@...>

Dear fellow family historians,

I have been working on an extensive family history. April 2018, this opus was
placed on the website of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM). But through a
change in servers, the work became unavailable with the original URL. It is now
available again as a PDF in all its lengthy glory. Its current length is 627.9 MB,
so it takes a while to download. It took me 1 minute and 14 seconds to download to
my computer. Here is the new URL
https://digitalarchive-assets.ushmm.org/pdf/bib261529_001_001.pdf

The Table of Contents shows you those chapters that are in various states of
incompletion and not yet available (NA) on the web site.

Briefly, the material covered are: my parents and my origins in Prague and Vienna,
our escape >from Europe after 20 months as refugees primarily in France,
my assimilation and education in the US, my family history research in the
last couple of decades that has reconnected me to my family roots in Bohemia
and Galicia, and my discovery of the tragic losses of family in the Holocaust. I
welcome any comments, critiques, errata, etc.
