Burial: Nice Jewish Cemetery, 1898 #france

Georges Graner

Dear Melody,
As suggested by Anne Lifshitz-Krams, Isidore DONN died indeed at
Villefranche sur Mer on January 27, 1898. The corresponding act can be
found on line (page 305) on the Website of the Departmental Archives of
Alpes Maritimes. Age 35, painter, married, born at Vilna (then Russia)
from English parents. He lived at Nice but died at the Villefranche sur
Mer Hospital.
In the library of our Society (Cercle de Genealogie Juive), 45 rue La
Bruyère, 75009 Paris, we have a list of the graves of the "Cimetière du
Château" at Nice, where he might be buried. But, unfortunately, I am
not at Paris at present and the library will be closed during the whole
month of August. Be patient !

Mistake or name changed #hungary

LISBETH

Hello

When I began my research in 2005, for my ggfather I only known his name
(SONNENFELD/SONENFELD), first name (IsraÍl), his year of birth (1853)
and where he was born (SÃ rospatak, Hungary).

After have looked at on JewisGen for the births, I thought to have find
his parents and siblings. But now I ask me if I have not do a mistake.

At this date I read his mother's maiden name : "Czili Czipre". To be
sure and learn more I looked at in a Center to Paris the LDS microfilm,
and there for her maiden name I read something like SZANIRINE
(hungarian name).

The problem for me is that recently I read on my gfather's birth
certificate an other maiden name : Cäcilia LIEBERMANN. I think this
last is the good because Czili and Cäcilia is same first name on
soundex names.

So I ask me if her maiden name was changed or if the translation was
bad ?

It's necessary for me to resolve this point beacuse I found a census
1869 for Cäcilia SONNENFELD, maiden name LIEBERMANN but with other
children and without a son named IsraÍl

Unless my great-great grandmother had made a false statement by
changing the dates of birth and surnames

An other thing : is IsraÍl and Izidor the same first name ?

Can somebody help me ?

Thank you in advance.

Information about Vienna 1800s Occupation #austria-czech

James

I seek information about the occupation "Commissionaer" in mid 1800s
Vienna. Is it some type of important appointed civil official? Would the
Stats Archiv in Vienna have records to identify such individuals?

Thanks for any helpful information or suggestions.

Jim Castellan

Background information:
I am trying to locate Jacob/Jakob/Jacques MAYER, the husband of Anna
MAYER, geb. HERZFELD, who died 5 August 1896 in Vienna and was buried in
the Vienna Zentralfriedhof Tor I.

Her 1896 Vienna Jewish Death Record found in the Family History Library
microfilm translates she was "widow of Commissionar Jacob M.[ayer]". The
script is difficult to read, but It may also indicate either Anna, Jacob
or both were >from Pressburg (now Bratislava).

Her burial record on JewishGen's WW Burial Registry notes Anna Mayer was
97 years old at death, she lived at 1020, Praterstrasse 10
and her occupation was Commissionaerwitwe (Commissionars widow).

I have not found any reasonable candidate for the Vienna death of this
Jewish Jacob/Jakob/Jacques Mayer in the FHL MFs or the JewishGen WW
Burial Registry in Vienna.
