Dear Members,

Hello to all. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

I have a name to add to my list AXELRATH. My gggrandmother Fani/Feige
WEISS,nee AXELRATH, wife of gggf Abraham Weiss >from Mukachevo.

Can you help me find the present day names for Szabotin and Patkanos?
About late 1800s to early 1900s, they were located in Hungary, possibly
in Bereg megye.

Thanks for your time and help,

Re: Czechoslovakian town name #hungary

Dolph Klein <kledolph@...>

"Hemana" is probably a transliterated pronunciation of the Slovak name
Humenne (Humenne'), while Stakson is likewise a near pronunciation of
Stakcin (Stakc^in). "Ci^n should be pronounced as in chin. Prior to 1920
under Hungarian rule, these towns were known as Homonna and Sztakcsin,
respectively. The two towns are about 25 km (15 miles) >from each other, the
latter being SNE of Humenne near the NE corner of Slovakia. You should be
able to find the map coordinates in ShtetlSeeker.

I am trying to determine where my grandather's brother was living in the
1930s. The family was Hungarian, and had been living in Backo Petrovo Selo
in Yugoslavia, but this brother moved to "Stakson" or "Stakan" which
according to my grandfather is near "Hemana" in Czechoslovakia. I was
unable to find a match using ShtetlSeeker. I imagine that this would have
been an area of Czechoslovakia with a significant Hungarian presence.
Thanks for your help, and have a happy new year.

Ruth GOLDBERG/WANG, Sanok, Poland 1939-42 #general

DebWE308@...

Hi Genners,

If anyone was living in Sanok, Poland between 1939-42. My father's sister
Ruth Goldberg / Wang, was hidden for a short time by a Polish family. Then she
was either discovered and sent to Auschwitz or was shot by a German soldier.
She was born in 1914. If anyone knew her or knew what happened to her and the
family, I would be grateful for the information!

See you in Salt Lake??? #usa

RecordsAccess@...

Just another reminder!

To all you Yankee Doodle Genners who will be in Salt Lake next month,

It's scheduled for TUESDAY at 2:00 PM.

ARE YOU COMING TO SALT LAKE? If so, drop me an Email if you haven't already
done so.

It will be nice to see old friends and make new ones.

Perhaps you have some suggestions for our Sig.
Or a project we can work on?
Or how about a good story as to what you found in the past year?

Maybe someone can inspire us. Or at least give us few ideas.

In addition there are scheduled talks on:
Earlier American Jewish Research and
Castle Garden (the NY entry point before Ellis Island)
Both by Nancy Arbeiter, one of my favorite speakers.

Looking forward to hearing >from you.
