Children in the Great War #southafrica

Saul Issroff <shaul@...>

The index at

http://www.genealogy.co.za/SAKids1918.html

contains the surnames of children in the publication
Children of South Africa in the Time of the Great War (Cape Town: Ernest T.
M. Notcutt, 1918): each entry contains pictures of the children, with places
and years of birth, together with current addresses and names of their
parents. Some entries also contain information about grandparents,
great-grandparents, relationship to the 1820 settlers, etc. Spellings of
towns, etc, conform to the original in the book.

There are a number of 'Jewish' sounding surnames (e.g. Cohen!)

Klonomos gever #latvia

Ben Forman <ben.forman@...>

Hi

I've reached a dead end (hopefully temporarily) in my ever growing
family tree.
I've been searching the Latvia databases for relatives/reference to
family on my mothers side.
I have quite a comprehensive list of names but can't find concrete
reference to any of them.

I'm told that the individual I'm looking for came >from Dvinsk his name
was:

Klonomos GEVER

His son was

Shlomo Ben KLONOMOS and he married Bessie SILVER. At some point the name
was changed to SILVERMAN. I assume they married around 1870 since their
first child was born in 1872 they then had 10 further children until
1892 (Myer, Leah, Gertrude, Mary, Annie, eva, Dora, Jane, Sam and Isaac)

Harris moved to England where he married and had 9 children of his own
(Isaac, Maurice, Henry, Fanny, Rae, Sarah, Bessie, Myer and Jack)

I would have thought that the Klonomos Gever -> Isaac Silverman
generation (ie before the emmigration to england) would be somewhere oon
the database. Does anyone know any other sources to help this search or
any other direction to look in, or does anyone have any reference in
their own research to these people.

Thanks

Ben

SITE CITE: Halle (Saale) Holocaust Victims - Commemorative Book #germany

Naomi Teveth <ntevet@...>

Dear Gersig friends,
please be informed about the online commemorative book on Halle (Saale)
Holocaust victims, a school project of the Halle Suedstadt-Gymnasium.
A brief English introduction is presented and you can reach the site here:

http://www.gym-suedstadt.bildung-lsa.de/gedenkbuch/indexen.html

The data collected are presented in German and a typical (randomly chosen)
entry looks like the following:

Name (Surname ):
Geburtsname (Maiden Name):
Vorname (given name):
Geburtstag (Birthday) :
Geburtsort (Birth place) :
Privatadresse (private address) :
letzte Adresse: (last address)
Beruf (Profession) :
Verwandtschaft (relatives) :
Ehefrau (wife):
Kinder: (Children)
Enkel: (grandchildren)
Bruder: (brother)
Schwaegerin: (sister-in-law)
weitere Lebensdaten: (further data on the person's life)
Todesort und Datum: (Death place and date)
Quelle(n): (Sources)

The students with the teacher seem to have done a good research work and the
site is presented well.

I looked through the entries on JGFF for the town Halle and there are a few
researchers who entered names they are researching that match
names in the commemorative book. Best regards,

Naomi Teveth in Tel Aviv ntevet@netvison.net.il

Since the Bremen Emigre Records No Longer Exist #germany

Marcus Poulin <photonicbandgap@...>

Anyone know where I could search for German residents who maybe left Bremen?
I certainly cannot find his name in the Hamburg passenger records for a
German Jewish citizen with his name. (circa 1895-1904).

For the record I would have spelled Emigre correctly but the list server
would not allow the accents.

Thanks all and very glad to be back on the list. Sincerely,

Marcus Poulin Berlin ? GE photonicbandgap@earthlink.net
