Jews in and around Trier #germany

Stefan.Roos@...

During my research of the history of several jewish communities in the
Moselle/Eifel region I managed to build up a database of jewish citizens
of Trier and its suburbs. The database includes information on more than
5,000 individuals.

If you are searching for your ancestors in or around Trier please let me
know. I will gladly share the results of my research with you and answer
your question/query to the best of my knowledge.

Stefan Roos Welschbillig, Germany stefan.roos@ubs.com

PS.: Does someone know the e-mail address of Mr Rodney Eisfelder of Australia?

Dear ROM-SIGgers,

I have been asked by someone in Israel who is seeking to learn the
whereabouts of a relative who had been a member of the ROM-SIG before we
were part of JewishGen, if we can help to locate her.

The person was named June MOSCOVITZ, and as of 2000 was living in New
York City. If any of you know her, or know of her, please contact me

Re: Auschwitz database #hungary

Katz, Itzik <Itzik.Katz@...>

The Auschwitz database search does not have any records of people who
perished there after 1943.

Most of the people we are looking for perished after 1943 since the mass
deportations >from Hungary started after April 1944.

Having said this, one can find few names of Hungarian Jews who have moved to
other countries, like France, and were deported >from those countries before
1944.

I was unable to find any of my family members in this database for my
research. A better place to look for information about Hungarian deportees
is in NEVEKLARSFELD (http://www.neveklarsfeld.org/) website. I was able to
find my uncle and other relatives there.

Yad Vashem will soon be opening their "Pages of Testimony" website where
more information may be found. Yad Vashem had targeted the opening of the
web site to June 2004 and it is being delayed. I believe we all look forward
to this web.

In case you didn't see this reference on the main Jewish Gen digest:
The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum searchable database is now in
English.
http://www.auschwitz.org.pl/szukaj/index.php?language=EN

The total number of records in the database is 69,000. The search
displays no more than 40 names at a time even if there is indication
that many more are in the database.
At the "How To Search" link there is an explanation of the use of 'wildcard'
entries.

Re: Upper NY state Hungarian Jewish communities #hungary

Dinberg Donna <donna.dinberg@...>

Lois,

Two of your three names (Grossman, Friedman) occur in the online database of
the Industrial Removal Office records, which covers the years 1899-1922.
This Center for Jewish History database should not be overlooked by anyone
whose ancestors moved out of New York City around the turn of the 19th/20th
centuries.

The URL of the database is:

A listing of the CJH online databases may be found here:

Hope this helps.

Family stories say the Grossman, Kupferberg or Friedman
relatives may have spent time soon after late 1800s
immigration, in upper state New York. Many were furriers.
Any idea which communities would have been attractive to
Hungarian Jews.

Cause of Death-Elmebaj #hungary

Katz, Itzik <Itzik.Katz@...>

Dear Siggers,

On two of my grandfather's sibling death-records the cause of death is
specified as "Elmebaj" which literally translates to psychosis.

I find it very difficult to accept psychosis as a cause of death unless the
persons in question committed suicide.

Do you know of another possible translation to this cause of death or any
other explanation why would this be written as a cause of death? Can this
mean "stroke" instead of psychosis?
