Eden Joachim <esjoachim@...>

I responded to Yale Reisner's offer for him to look up our surnames in the
Telephone Books which the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation in Warsaw, Poland had
recently received.

Yale was kind enough, as he always is, to provide me a lengthy list of
entries for my family names. I am sharing them with all of you in the hopes
that you may find information on your family.

I do not have any more information on any of these people, so please do not
direct questions to me. This discussion list is the place to find out if
anyone else knows anything about these people.

Here's who appears in the 1940 Lithuanian phone directory:

Request for assistance with Hebrew Web Site #poland

Dear List,

I checked the Segula Cemetery data base, and sent a private e-mail to
Geoff with the information he requested. However, immediately after
doing so, I remembered that the Segula Cemetery is one of the
cemeteries that was added to the JewishGen JOWBR data base .

The direct URL is http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/cemetery/

A search on KAISER (sounds like) limiting to Israel only returns 50
hits. Most are D-M similar names. However, all 3 KAISERs that are on
the Segula data base appear on the JOBWR.

I must point out, however, that some of the information such as
section and row # are listed only in Hebrew. Anyone who doesn't read
Hebrew will still have a problem getting the exact location.

Dear Researchers,
I am in need of some assistance with a Hebrew web site for the Cemetry
of Petach Tikva in Israel.

The web site address is http://www.sgula.org.

I am trying to identify if Ephraim (Fritz) KAISER is buried here and
if so what information may be recorded about him. I believe that he
migrated >from Germany to Israel in the early 1930's and died in Petach
Tikva and was presumably buried there in the 1970's.

Hi Geoff
I was not aware of the www.sgula.org site
but two years ago JFRA, the Jewish Family Research Association of Israel
had a project where we took the 53,000 names >from Segula-Petah Tikva
and transliterated them to be searchable under the JOWBR project
of JewishGen. (Last year we did the same with the 35,000 names of Netanya)

So: go to JewishGen, find JOWBR by going to the menu
databases, general, JOWBR

or scrolling down on the first page to
Projects and activities
<http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/cemetery/>;JewishGen Online
Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR)

you end up on
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/cemetery/
where you enter kaiser as the surname, regardless of spelling(!)
and Israel as the region

Up pops a list of 55 names which sound alike
and there at http://tinyurl.com/cqyvd
you will find Efraim Keizer (don't even think about the way it is written,
the transliteration followed some rules, which were set when we started)
who had a father Zeev (Wolf) and who died on the 4th of March 1986

In the grave next to his is Marash? (Marsha? mem-resh-heh can be a
lot of things)
who died 11 May 1983, her father was Avraham
It can be the wife without a maiden name, the system isn't foolproof...

There is another Keizer this time Ilana, father Nisan, died 23 Sep 1988
and a Chaim Kaiser father also Chaim, died 30 Jan 1969

I tried to look up Kaizer in Hebrew in the Sgula.org site
but couldn't find it.... (The cemetery had given us the surname as
kuf-yud-yud-zayin-resh) take care

How to find records of family members who came into the USA through Boston? #poland

Jeffrey Hoffman, DDS <fisherbeer@...>

I have tried searching Ellis Island records and cannot find my
grandmother and two aunts >from Grymalow, Poland (now Ukraine).

One of my cousins thinks they may have entered the US though a
port in Boston. Can anyone provide information for me to search
in that direction?

Thanks, Jeff Hoffman

Dear Judy Zimlichman,

If your father Yitzchok Weisz was born in Nyirbeltek, I guess he's
same to the later soychet of Budapest, who's called "Weisz bacsi".
Please let me know.

Regarding Lefkovits's, do you mean Armin Lefkovits of Nyirbator?

Jacob arrived in England in the early 1850's - he fathered 10 children [ 3

Jacob became a naturalised British Citizen in 1876 - he was ajeweller by

I am searching for any help in tracing his family, parents and siblings in
