A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Samuel was CEO of Hecht & Co. He was
married to Ruth SAMLER (KOLKER?). His daughter is Margery PEYTON. His sister
is Mary B HECHT.

One obituary states that Samuel was a grandson of Moses HECHT. Another

Samuel HECHT had sons: Meyer C (born 1855), Emanuel (born 1856), Albert S
(born 1865), Alexander (born 1867) and Moses S (born 1867).

Moses HECHT had four sons: Nathan (born 1857), Hiram (born 1862), Arthur S

Commercial Heir Research Re: Artwork in Germany #germany

A & B Algaze <algaze@...>

I have recently been contacted by a company that refers to itself
"Genealogische Nachforschungen & Erbenermittlungen."

In an e-mail they wrote:

"We found a strong hint that your family had lost particular art work
due to the Holocaust. Once we find such hints we try to search the
beneficiaries, offer them the contract and continue to work as soon as
they signed. This means: so far we have not located the art work.
We offer to search it and to do our best to get it back for your family."

I am very reluctant to sign the contract they sent to me as it commits
me and my descendants until 31 December 2010. In addition, they
wrote about expenses that can be deducted >from any assets they
find without specifying what those expenses can be
(my guess is: lawyer fees, finder fees, appraisal fees, etc.)

I am wondering if any other Gersiggers have been contacted by such
an agency and how the issue was settled. With many thanks.

MODERATOR NOTE: Comments - either positive or negative - about specific
business operations can not be posted to this list. It would be interesting
to know about proven scams that target families of Holocaust victims. Is this
a trend? MOD 1

Locating living relatives in Bobruisk #belarus

Deena Berton <deenahome@...>

I am looking for guidance on how to find living relatives in the Bobruisk
area. I'm happy to hire researchers but I'm not aware of what more recent
resources exist for the area.

I am hoping to find the descendents of my grandmother's aunt. When I started
my research over 15 years ago, all I knew was that her first name was Nesya
and that she had children.

After many years finding only scraps of information, I had a breakthrough
thanks to the American Red Cross, the Belorussian Red Cross, and the
Bobruisk archives.

They found a 1976 will for my grandmother's aunt Nesya SLEPAK nee
KOLTOFF/KOLTUV. She died in Feb 1976 and her daughter Maria "Masha"
Ilinichna SHAPIRO nee SLEPAK inherited property >from her at 11 Raskova Lane,
Bobruisk.

Masha sold this property in May 1976 at which time she lived at 39 Bakharov
St, Apt 2, Bobruisk. However, the people at this address now do not know of
her.

I know Masha had a daughter Ira SHAPIRO and I think Ira had a son Edick
(last name unknown).

Any advice on how to find these people or their descendents would be
appreciated.

Please respond privately.
Deena Berton
deenahome@...

Ps - The property was sold to Izia Samuilovich KHAIKIN who lived at 73
October St, [Bobruisk]. To the best of my knowledge he is not related and I
have no other information on him.

RUBIN family in Korczyna Poland #general

Dr.Mohl <drmohl@...>

I am researching the RUBIN family >from Korczyna, Poland. My great-great
grandfather was Naftali Rubin born March 15th 1883 in Korczyna, Poland and left to
Karlshrue, Germany where he had my grandmother Recha Rubin. Naftali's father was
Benyamin (born approximately1850) lived in Korczyna, Poland.
All the rabbis in Korcyzna were Rubins and I want to find out how Benyamin and
Naftali are related to the Rabbis of Korczyna: Rabbi Shmuel, Rabbi Asher, Rabbi
Mordechai Eliezer Rubin. And also how these Rubins are related to the Rubins >from
Ropshitz, Poland >from the famous Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Rubin Horowitz son of Rabbi
Mendel Rubin >from Lisko.

Any information will be great.
Thank you,

Finding graves in Israel. #general

How would one go about finding graves in Israel? I used JOWBR and couldn't find my
relative. ROCHEL DEVORA GELERINTER died in 1969 in New York, but she's not buried
next to her husband in New York and I heard rumor that she might be buried in Har
HaMenuchot cemetery (or Har HaZaitim). How might I go about trying to find out, as
well as getting photos of her grave?

Thanks!

I recently uncovered a Death certificate of a great-uncle named Isaac BERNSTEIN,
which lists his city of birth as Tarascha, Russia. The date of birth is shown to be
February 15, 1871. Isaac's "Declaration of Intention", shows Warsaw as the city of
birth.

I have searched for a town named Tarascha, with no positive results. Perhaps,
Tarascha is/was a small Shtetl located near Warsaw.

Any suggestions or help with locating the town of Tarascha, would be greatly
appreciated.
