JRI Poland #Poland Polish Name Lopchia? #poland

Is anyone familiar with the Polish surname, LOPCHIA? I recently came across
this name while researching Polish descendents in the 1910 U.S. Census
records for New York. A Nathan LOPCHIA lived and worked with the Nathan
FISHBEIN family in New York following his immigration to New York. He was
the sister of Nathan FISHBEIN's wife, Annie. Is this an unusual Polish name
or is there possibly some other variation that was lost on the census taker?

I have the database of births >from Jagelnica thru JRI-Poland. It begins in
1862. However, I have just made contact with someone who had relatives from
this town, WITH THE SAME LAST NAME, and most of them ARE NOT listed!
If the database I have is, therefore, not complete, where else can I go to
get data to try to match this list of names with names that MAY be in my
family?

Dear Milton:

JRI-Poland has indexed all the available Jagielnica records at the
AGAD Archive in Warsaw, which covers births >from 1860 through 1902,
marriages 1874-1900, and deaths 1862-1899. The files you have are
complete and all these indices are included in the JRI-Poland online
database searchable at www.jri-poland.org by clicking on "search
database."

Earlier records -- 1817-59 births and 1817-61 deaths -- are held at
the Ukraine State Historical Archive in Lviv and have now been
microfilmed by the LDS Church and can be viewed on Film #2405439 at
your local Family History Center.

Later records, up through the 1930s, are held at the Warsaw USC
(civil records office). These records are protected >from public use
by Polish privacy law and regulations governing USC offices. These
records cannot be indexed or microfilmed until the registers are
transferred to the AGAD Archives once all records in the register
are over 100 years old.

Hope this helps in making your connection.
