CENSUS 1827-1853 Clarification #hungary

Pamela Weisberger <pweisberger@...>

I just re-read, to my amusement, my posting on the 1821-28 census record fo=
r the Jewish population of Szabolcs County where I wrote about columns list=
ing the numbers of "chickens, pigs, etc" owned by each family. Obviously n=
o Jews owned any pigs! My reference was based on a casual translation I re=
ceived, and in checking a JewishGen infofile on this census I see the follo=
wing listed:

* Col. 10: Large domestic animals, number of oxen, cows, horses
* Col. 11: Small domestic animals, number of sheep, swine, goats

Full information at: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Hungary/Census1828=
.htm

So while the census form was not created with Jewish dietary laws in mind I=
still felt I should clarify my statement to the group.

Burhgaun / Langenschwarz, state of Hesse (Gans & Greif families) #germany

Rob Lederer <ledererrob@...>

Greetings,

It's probably been since 2000 that I last was active on Gersig.

I am going on March 8 to Burghaun for the ceremonies around the
publication of the book on the Langenschwarz Jewish cemetery. My
ancestors Greif and Gans came >from there. I am interested in the
Greifs and Ganses of the area. It may give a clue to whether mine came
from elsewhere before Langenschwarz, particularly the Gans family,
which seems not to have had many members in Langenschwarz.

Any info on those two families? Is anyone "mapping" the Jewish clans
of the region?

Thank you, Rob Lederer NY NY Researcher # 18689

Wolferman of Hesse Kassel (and Cleveland OH,Missouri, and NY) #germany

Rob Lederer <ledererrob@...>

Hello,

It's probably been since 2000 that I last was active on Gersig.

I have reached a dead end with US records of my ggg-grandfather, Louis
WOLFERMAN (b. 1836). He came >from Hesse Kassel (or "Kassel"
according to his grand-daughter's memoir in the 1940s). I have not
found the ship manifest or been able to track him back to a specific
town in Hesse Kassel. I do not know if I should be looking at Kassel
itself or cast a wider net.

Louis arrived in New York on 10 Aug 1854 (supposedly; per petition for
naturalization), and on to Cleveland.before 1860, and then Missouri
before 1870. He was in New York by 1900 or 1910.

I am going to Hesse to visit a different town on March 8. I would
love to crack this mystery and add Louis's home town to my itinerary. Any help?

Thank you, Rob Lederer NY NY researcher 18689 <ledererrob@gmail.com>

Dear Genners,
Thanks to the people that posted this massage. I sent this list to a good
friend in Israel. I know that his family came >from Nurnberg and yes, it
was Bingo. On the list he found the name of his grandfather with the address
where the lived before the war.

He was very thankful to find a connection to his family books and will
make contact to the library. Thanks to all

Pachter - Bransk, Poland #poland

tina levine

I came across the names of several persons with my
maiden name, Pachter,>from the town of Bransk. Bransk
was located 20 miles north of my Pachter ancestral
town, Siemiatycze. The names were listed in a book
written by Elchanan Mann entitled Nir L'Bransk, 2001.

I am trying to find any descendants or relatives of
these people who might have left Bransk before WWII.

The names of these persons listed were:
Isaac, Benyamin, Beryl, Yaakov, Ethel, Lipa, Shlomo,
Mordechai, Perel, Asher, Leah

I am also trying to get in touch with Elchanan Mann,
the author. He resides in Israel.

If anyone has any information please contact me.

Dear Genners!
About a month ago I got an email >from the historian Dr.
Christian Schölzel who is helping the Koller Family
from Germany to research a story on a family member who
was in Zawiercie Ghetto. This member of
the Koller family was a handcraft-painter and was
managing the production of packaging material for
shoe-polish. He was the subject of discussion
concerning his behavior with fellow employees.

If you have any information about this guy please let

Viewmate translation from Polish required #belarus

Merv & Naomi Barnett

I am looking for some assistance in translating the marriage document
listed in the two Viewmate files below. The document was A3 in size and
hence I've done it in two A4 scans as I don't have an A3 scanner.

The document relates, I believe, to my husband's ggrandfather's sister
and I would appreciate as much information as possible.

If you aren't able to read the first one clearly I may be able to send
you directly a better scan.

I also realise there is some Hebrew writing at the bottom right hand
corner of the 2nd page. I will scan this separately at a later date and
post a message on this list regarding translation.

Any assistance gratefully appreciated.
