Searching Aks/Oks family from Lutsk - Ukraine #usa

Hana Abdul-Haq <abdulhaq.hana@...>

I'm searching for immigrants with the family name Aks/Oks who came
from present day Lutsk, Ukraine or surroundings. It also had the name
Luck when it was part of Poland.

My great-grandmother Ruchla Aks/Oks was born in Lutsk 2 October 1895.
She always said that she had family who left for the US. I'm not
certain that it was before 1880 but it could very well be so.

I thought I might search in the US for this family since the search in
Ukraine seems impossible due to the high number of families with this
name. I'm sure that the nr of immigrants form Lutsk to the US is much
smaller. Actually I could only find 3 entries at Ellis Island which
correspond to my search:

Hersch Oks, arrival 13 August 1911 >from Luzk, Russia, aged 17, Ship Kursk
Basia Oks, arrival Nov 3 1922, aged 18, Ship Carmania
Avrum Oks, arrival Nov 3 1922, aged 11, Ship Carmania

For Avrum it says that he's going to join his brother-in-law Natan
Morgan on 172 Madison Str., his father is Morris Oks.

I also found in the Rosenbaum money Bank passage records that a
certain Nochem Aks started saving on 01/04/1897 for Hersch Aks. I
suppose it's the one above.

As an additional info my great-grandmother also resided in Saratov,
Russia at a certain point after her birth.

If you have any information about the people above or people with the
name Aks/Oks or similar spellings like Oksman who immigrated from
Lutsk and immediate surroundings to the US, please contact me so that
we can exchange further information. Thank you.

Hi, Since accessing the LitvakSIG Website and joining the Kaunas
District Research Group and getting onto its site, I have learned more
about my family than I could have ever imagined. Never got further back
than my Grandparents, but now know the exact town they were >from in
Lithuania, as well as their parents and siblings. Being so "bitten"
by this knowledge, my husband and I are planning to visit Vilnius in
the Spring.

Recently received a request >from our district leader, Ralph, requesting
further donations to cover the expenses of all the the translating and
document gathering.

Given everything I have discovered, I went ahead and made an additional
donation. I wanted to share my success story and hope that all of you
on our site can send in any donation that might help keep us afloat.

That being said, I still haven't found the ship my family arrived on in
1894!!! Thanks.
